Danni Maibaum Photography Wedding and event photography in Sheffield | Yorkshire You could say I may be slightly addicted to that feeling.

After living in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Texas, Tennessee, Barnsley and Sheffield, I became obsessed with documenting memories before we had to move on to our next destination, ( My Mum was a Country singer who had a couple of number ones in South Africa, random, but true!) Because of this I find the second before you press the shutter really exciting. The past decade has seen me singing in a few

bands, studying for a degree in photography at Hallam University, completing a teaching degree at Hudderfield University and then becoming a photography and media teacher. I have been able to combine creativity with a bit of life experience and patience to really understand what is needed to capture beautiful images.

Huge admiration for these two
Rebecca and Fraser got ready together at The Rookery | Hotel had their ceremony at Islington Town Hall in one big room with all of their friends around them, nipped over the road to the pub for drinks, then hopped on a double decker bus to St. John.

I’d always wanted to shoot at St. John. It’s one of their favourite restaurants and was a proper celebration of food for two total foodies.

Throughout the day their friends were genuinely taken aback by how they did their wedding: no a huge focus on tradition just the two of them at the centre of it. A proper honour to witness and photograph. Film and digital.

A massive thank you to Lucy Norton Events for making things run so smoothly.

I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately, and that’s because I’m right in the thick of it. This has been one of my best seasons yet, creatively and for the places it’s taken me. Lots of new corners of the world, lots of film, lots of very good people.

The trade off is that the quiet bits between weddings are working bits too. Editing, planning, thinking, moodboarding, with a decent amount of horizontal time folded in. It’s the only way I know how to give everyone my whole attention and still be a functioning human.

So if you’ve emailed or enquired and I’ve been slow to reply, it’s not for lack of care. You’re on my mind and I’ll come back to you properly as soon as I can. If it’s urgent, do give me a wee nudge.

This one is from Callum and Grace’s wedding in Wales last week. I will be dreaming about these sleeves for the rest of my life.

Loading a Mamiya 6 👀

A few people have said they’re scared of shooting medium format, I get it it’s way more manual than most digital setups, and every camera does it differently. Some wind on automatically, some are fully manual, some even load backwards. You just have to get to know your cameras.

For this one: load in from the left, pull the film across to the take-up spool, advance the lever until you hit number one, and you’re ready.

I recently did a fully analogue shoot with Alexandria French (the cover star!) first time trying T-Max which was gifted to me and might be my new favorite film ! I’m so happy with how it came out. Full set coming soon 🎞

Amy & Jack didn’t want a wedding that looked like a wedding.

No formality. Nothing arranged for the sake of the photo. Understated, fun and family first.

The references came fast. Corinne Day. Sofia Coppola. Paul Thomas Anderson. Noughties British romcoms. Britpop. All of it pointing the same way loose, warm and a little off-centre. My fave :)

What they asked for was their people. Their friends. Their kids. The ones who make up the life, not the ones who make up the guest list.

So that’s what the gallery is. Children running the room. Old friends folded into a corner. A surprise mariachi band and chocolate cake under a landslide of cherries.

Camberwell for the vows. Then a bus across to Staffordshire Street Studios, a blank white room filled with red anthuriums and blue hydrangea. Amy’s brother cooked. Family, all the way down.

Tell me what your day should feel like, that’s what I’m really interested in

Before every wedding, I don’t send a timeline form. I send a question: give me a film, an era, a song.

For Elizabeth and Joe it was Rat Pack, a Grease sleepover, The Notebook. Documentary style sometimes gets mistaken for “no direction.” I think the best documentary work comes from a point of view. References aren’t a shot-list but they’re a lens. In a room where there are infinite ways to tell a story with a camera, they help me find the one moment that’s actually this story.

This was a love story about two people unapologetically themselves. Feral on the dance floor and Full of heart.

I was invited to spend a sun-drenched afternoon with Anna Potter Emma Milne and as they made these wonderful creations. Set in one of the most impressive gardens I’ve ever seen ! Chats revolved around cat reincarnations , Joni Mitchell and the weather.

Funny how these things happen — late last year I went to a workshop and met Claire Coulthard | UK & Europe Wedding Photographer . One of the kindest person I’ve ever met, and we’ve had a couple of adventures this year. We got talking and she invited me to photograph Rebecca and Gavin’s wedding across London. So much creative freedom, and so fun hanging out in spaces with the best design at The Standard, Sweeties, and Decimo. I Played around a lot with flash to pull out the colour and the details.
