Sad to hear on tonights news that Dolly Parton has died aged 80.
I photographed her in Rotherham back in December 2007 when she launches her Imagination Library at The Magna Science & Adventure Centre Rotherham.

I recently commissioned by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue to photograph the UKRO Regional Challenge, with teams from across the UK tackling four realistic rescue scenarios designed to test their skills, decision-making and teamwork.

Rope Challenge: The casualty was suspended from a stand roof at Rotherhams New York Stadium By making my way to the back of the stand iI was almost on level with the rescue attempt and using a 27mm lens I was able to frame the shot so the lettering on the seats behind tells the viewer where the event took place.

Water rescue: I was offered a place in the judges boat which gave me the the advantage of being closer to the action. While i did shoot the more dramatic boats skipping across the the water at speed I was really looking for an image that get a little deeper into what these crews do on a real call out. The image shows a team from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue righting a capsized boat to check there isn’t casualty trapped beneath it.

Trauma challenge: A fairly static scenario I tried to give an overall feel of what was going on. Using an 18mm wide angle lens I managed to get the casualty along with the rescuers , first aider and the equipment used to asses and treat the casualty in a single frame.

Extraction Challenge: probably the most difficult of the challenges to get really good images. Safety considerations, combined with not wanting to encroach on the fire fighters work meant it was more difficult to find a composition that brought all the elements of the story together. The casualty the rescuers and the exact circumstances in which they were operating.

Last week we visited Gainsborough Old Hall in Lincolnshire. Dating back to 1460 its one of England’s and best-preserved medieval timber-framed manor houses. At time I found my wide angle lens was, not quite wide enough to get the images I wanted especially when photographing the exterior.
In the days of film photography the images below would only have been possible through use of a technique called , composite printing, or combination printing but thanks to digital photography its now much simpler to stitch images together than it used to be. All four images are 2 to for separate photographs joined together thanks to the magic of Photoshop.

November 2023 I was tasked with photographing Indi Gregory's Parents Claire and Dean and daughter Vienna. It was just 12 days before the death of their daughter. UK courts had ruled doctors could lawfully limit treatment for 8-month-old Indi, rejecting her parents' appeals to prolong her care or transfer her abroad.

A little over 2.5 years later I was again tasked with photographing the Gregory family. This time it was to welcome their new baby girl, Arabella Indi-Leigh into the world. Born just about two days earlier, 2.5 years after losing daughter Indi

I love photographing live music, shows, and concerts. When we stumbled across QuimiRock , an energetic Spanish musical and theatrical project performing outside the Ayuntamiento de Rincón de la Victoria in Plaza Al-Ándalus (the municipal public square located in the heart of Rincón de la Victoria) at 10:20 a.m., I just had to stop and shoot a few frames, especially when they began banging out some great covers including Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love riff, Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine, and some Queen!
The only thing was, when travelling on holiday, I carry a much lighter load. In this case, it was just three lenses - the XF18mm, XF27mm, and XF60mm - coupled with my Fujifilm X-Pro2 body and spare batteries, all packed into a small Billingham Hadley Pro shoulder bag. So these were all shot on the XF60mm f/2.4.
