Not quite my current kit - they have so much character, and it’s fascinating to see how much photography has changed over the years.

This week I have been at Milton Keynes College updating images for their college prospectus and course guides.
These behind-the-scenes shots made me laugh, as they show how college photography always involves finding the right angle from wherever I can....including doorways, corners, workshops, classrooms and, occasionally, slightly awkward positions.
As you can see, a college shoot can cover so much in one day, from practical learning to students interacting and getting stuck into their courses. It’s all about creating a set of images that are useful across prospectuses, course guides, websites and wider marketing.

For National Smile Month, it feels right to talk about the smiles that happen naturally during a business photo shoot.
Not every client wants formal headshots. Sometimes, the brief is to show the people behind the business and these are the kinds of shoots I love - colleagues chatting, working together, sharing ideas and looking genuinely engaged in what they do. These are the moments that help make a business look approachable, human and genuine.
Because strong business photography is not just about what a company does,
it's also about who is behind it.

It's been another busy week of photography for various different clients including an event for International Nurses Day, some headshots for some solicitors in London and also the Berkshire Care Awards.
Little did I know that, while I was busy photographing the awards, Keith Dias Apex Healthcare Service was capturing this behind-the-scenes shot of me in action. Thank you, Keith!

It’s been great to photograph the third annual Berkshire Care Awards at Windsor race course today. It is always an emotional event shining the light on those working in the care sector who, very often don’t get much recognition. Congratulations to all the winners 👏

As a photographer, one thing I have learnt over the years is that many people feel uncomfortable in front of the camera.

I often hear:

I hate having my photo taken
I never like photos of myself
I’m just not photogenic

That is why such an important part of a headshot session is helping people feel relaxed, comfortable and not under pressure.

is a good reminder that small things can make a big difference. Not rushing, keeping direction simple and creating a calm atmosphere can all help someone relax into the photo session.

Good photographs matter, but so does how people feel while they are being photographed.
