Hwange National Park and lions go hand in hand. Whilst it’s never guaranteed, and in a 3-week stay I still went days without sightings sometimes, there were some utterly magical moments from cubs playing, socialising, failed and successful hunts, and of course a lot of sleeping. African Bush Camps Somalisa and its private concession gave exclusive access to all those quite often, and even when the lions ventured out of the concession Hwange is so wonderfully quiet there still were very few vehicles.

I find Giraffe hard to photograph, maybe as a short person I struggle with their gifted verticality! Wider shots always work well though, and I love a slightly toned B&W conversion.

Birds really are fantastic. Ever since I was a kid I’ve loved birds; some of my earliest memories are watching them in my tiny childhood garden. Holidays were spent with my eyes glued to binoculars and then my camera, capturing their many facets, shapes, sizes and behaviours. This is a snippet of some of the feathered friends I’ve captured in the last couple of weeks with African Bush Camps at Somalisa in Hwange NP.

The adorable bushbucks residents in Bumbusi Wilderness Camp got a LOT of lens time during my recent shoot there. How could they not, look how cute they are! Bumbusi has been one of absolute favourite camps I’ve had the privilege of visiting this year - a very special spot.
