AFTERGLOW
REMINDER TO PHOTOGRAPHERS! Always triple check your gear before you leave home. Trust me you really don’t want to drive miles from home and then hike 30 minutes, just to find you’ve left the bolt that holds your camera to the star tracker behind 😭🤣. Though the moon 🌖 was so bright last night it would have probably been ineffective anyway. Still managed to get some great astro shots of last night’s sky with the Z8 +14-24 2.8 . This photo is a composite of two shots, the landscape was shot just after sunset in the Blue Hour and the sky was the photographed around an hour later once the stars were fully on show.

MAOL NA GALL
"Mull of Galloway," is the southern most point of Scotland, sitting at the end of the Rhins of Galloway peninsula west of Stranraer. The Robert Stevenson Lighthouse has stood on the headland since 1830 safeguarding ships through the dangerous waters between the North Channel and the Solway Firth.

TRUSTY’S HILL
Trusty’s hill near Gatehouse of Fleet is home to the remains an early medieval hill fort. Near to where the entrance of the fort would have been is one of the most unique historical artefacts in Southern Scotland a Pictish carved stone from around 500CE. The stone depicts a classic Pictish double Sheild and Z-rod as well as what is believed to be a sea monster and a sword. The stone is now caged to protect it from vandalism. Some archaeologists believe that the site may have been a royal seat in the Brythonic Kingdom of Rheged though this is debated by scholars.

Bonus picture of the grey mare’s tail near Newtown Stewart because I didn’t have anywhere else to put it.

SUPER MOON SUNDOWN
The Wolf Super Moon shot on January 3rd over Clatteringshaws Loch. Absolutely one of the coldest shoots I have ever done. My fingers had practically frozen solid by the time I made it back to the car. Shots two and four are of The Merrick and Meikle Millyea respectively shot while waiting for the moon to rise.
