Has anyone got any connections with the British Navy? I would love to find some 'free' worn/used Rope Size to as jumbo size as I can get eg Size , I would like to make a range of furniture that has metal inside the core of the rope, then have the metal bent into various shapes for the furniture... Spent a couple hours calling various shipping yards, varying from Grimsby fishing suppliers to Chandlers in Devon to international shipping companies..
Jimmy but not JimmyGreen, suggested the Navy, and now I am opening up this quest to the world to ask if I can get hold of free, yes free.. thick mooring ropes, as I now know that insurance states that the mooring ropes on small boats to the mega monster cargo ships means that the 8 strand huge ropes must be changed out every 3-7 years..
If you are out there and out can help me source and or arrange a closer pickup point than the middle of the South Korean shipping company that mentioned they could potentially help, then I would be most grateful for 100cm cut offs and over.. (not talking little strands here..) who do you know, and how many strings can you pull to source some badboy thick rope

For logistical reasons, getting it to Newbury Berkshire would be ace, or a UK coastal port and the access to get hold of it would be rather freaking ace..
