One of the joys of using a Rolleiflex is how it transforms a walk around Glasgow’s remarkable Mural Trail into a slower, more thoughtful experience, revealing familiar street art in a completely different way.

Completely different to my last post, but a few people asked about my Rolleiflex when I posted my selfie a couple of weeks ago.

For this outing, I took a 1961 Rolleiflex 3.5F loaded with Ilford HP4.

I love how medium format film slows everything down and encourages you to notice the details. Seeing these murals through a 65-year-old camera in square format and black and white gives them a very different feel from the digital images we’re used to.

Amazing that a camera built in 1961 is still out there making photographs.

Some places really do live up to the postcards. 💜🌅

I visit the lavender fields of Provence most years, and watching the sun set over Valensole is every bit as magical as you would expect. I think this may be one of my favourite images from the trip so far.

I am back photographing the lavender fields in Valensole.

You will need to open the reel to see me fully - a bit of bad planning there, sorry.

Just my luck, I come all the way to the Valensole lavender fields and instead of beautiful French sunshine I get grey Scottish haar. 🔊🔊🔊

It’s a tough life, so sometimes you’ve just got to take time for your self and chill. Summer holidays at Pierrevert, France.

I have walked past this deer every morning this week and guessed that she must have had a fawn nearby. I have had the video on my phone ready every day and today was rewarded with a few seconds glimpse of the baby deer.

Thought I’d pop out from behind the camera and take a selfie to reintroduce myself!

I’m John, a photographer based in Scotland with a love of landscapes, film photography and chasing beautiful light wherever I can find it.

Most of the images you see here are the result of early mornings, questionable weather forecasts, and more cups of coffee than I’d care to admit!

Whether you’ve been following for years or you’ve only just found the page, thank you for being here. I really appreciate all the support, comments and conversations.

I’d love to know where you’re following from – let me know in the comments!

The Japanese Garden at Cowden.

The weather in Scotland was good last week so I booked a visit to the Japanese Garden for Friday. Unfortunately things didn’t go to plan and it was grey and overcast. So reflecting the grey theme I went for black and white images.
