It’s time to reintroduce myself 👋🏻
I’m Becki, 32. Ex teacher, mama of 2, and a newborn & family (& wedding) photographer.
I categorically will not sugar coat the newborn phase for you. I also know that the newborn phase can feel bloody overwhelming.
Everyone asks if you’re enjoying your newborn bubble, and you feel naturally obliged to nod and say yes (not me, I’ll tell you that I’ve never felt euphoria like it followed by enormous anxiety and not much else for 8 weeks).
There is SO much joy but there can also be exhaustion, loneliness, relief, uncertainty, anxiety and tears - happy & sad. You are welcome, in *every* capacity, to be your true self when I come to capture your bubs. I mean that.
I don’t care about the washing on the floor, the dishes piled from 2 nights before, the duvet unmade, the ni**le pads everywhere and the look of “I SO wanna do this but I am SOO tired” on your face as you answer the door.
What matters is documenting this chapter exactly as it is. I know that in 2 years time, those photos will become something you look at every now and then, but will such a nostalgia for how tiny your baby was, but also the version of you, just after becoming parents. YOU deserve the be captured, in the time where you didn’t think any of it was going to get better. Because the hug you will want to give yourself is magnificent.
Photos in the home your baby first came back to. The home where you’ve fed them at 3am, paced the hallway with them, stared at them while they slept, and learnt who they are. You’ll remember the baby that didn’t sleep for the first 2 hours of the session, and then went out like a light for the last half hour. You’ll remember how it felt to put make up on for the first time, or sit down and brush your own hair. My hope is you reflect on how far you’ve come from the postpartum you.
And when your gallery arrives, every image is yours. No extras.
Because asking a sleep-deprived parent, deep in the haze of postpartum life, to choose their favourites from memories they can barely remember creating feels unfair to me.
The everyday magic.✨ I can’t wait to be back.
