This term has flown by, we have enjoyed as usual a packed programme, Members nights, Guest Speakers , Competitions & Our in Conversation with Evening and lastly our AGM and Prize Giving.

Last Saturday we had our Scavenger Hunt in Dunbar, starting & finishing at Winterfield Golf Club.

Now we are preparing for our Annual Exhibition in St. Mary’s Kirk, save the dates!

December is flying by and Christmas is approaching ….
We enjoyed our Christmas Night out at the Tyneside Tavern and last night we had our Christmas Quiz, a fun night organised by Andy B. The usual fun and chat with mince pies and other tasty treats.

We return to Poldrate on the 13th January for our 1st Members Night of 2026 - you are very welcome to come along and see what happens when we meet up!

Since our last post, we have enjoyed the Nature Competition
for the Fiona Govan Memorial Cup. The images were judged by members who had a really tough time chosing the winners as we had 74 great images to choose from. However, they rose to the task and once the votes had been cast and counted the results were as follows:
1st Place Muriel Huggins- Kingfisher With Catch
2nd Place Muriel Huggins with Gannet and Streamers
3rd Place Valeria Stuart with Lichen Covered Pine Trees.

Then a wonderful presentation on Abstract photography by Kevin Douglas, with Rudolf then talking about Alfred Buckham exhibition, which is well worth seeing at the Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh until April 2026.

Last week we enjoyed our “ In Conversation with ….. David was the host, with our panel consisting of Jon, Brenda & Damien. A great selection of images and facts from our members.

This week we are on Zoom for our Theme Competition, which this year’s topic is weather.

Last week a really successful members night….

Lorraine a book review on Stockport Collection
Fran shared her trip to Israel
Then Andy, showed us how to digitise images, explained his database and after coffee break. Restoration of old images. Fascinating evening.

Tonight we are back in the Poldrate, with our Nature competition starts the evening off with 70 images from members.
Then guest speaker Kevin Douglas on Abstract photography and if time allows we will be taken on a tour of Mull.

Last Tuesday Kevin Pigney joined us on Zoom for a presentation on Landscapes, Seascapes & Long Exposure. It was well received and thoroughly enjoyed.

This week we are in the Poldrate for a Members night, come along and join us, we start 7.30pm sharp in the Poldrate Arts & Crafts Centre.

There will be photos shared, a book reviewed , presentation on photo restoration and much more.

Plenty chat over coffee & tea with biscuits too ! So it would nice to welcome you, come along and say Hello .

Tuesday night was Portrait Night - the studio strobes that were donated to the club last year were set up with some considerable effort in the Hall and lots of members (plus honorary member, Freddy) were sitters, models, subject and chatterers.

Next week we have a zoom presentation by Kevin Pigney on Seascapes, Landscapes & Long Exposures…

Tonight we are in the Poldrate Arts & Crafts Centre for our Practical evening of Portrait Photography.

Last week’s presentation was on photography for publication and press photography by two of our own club members.

Sally gives us a great overview of the how to go about trying to get your photos published, the work of agencies, photo calls etc.

Graham based his talk around some sequences of images he had taken while working as a press photographer. He explained the vast range of places, people, and situations where he could be sent to take very different types of photographs.

To close the evening Michael gave us a short run through of photographing letters “in the wild” and, as with several points earlier in the evening, we were not sure where we were being taken. But we ended up with a great promotional image for the club.

Tonight is the 1st Competition of the year …. Result’s in the next post!

Last week our Guest Speaker was ill, the members all rallied round and we had an evening on Zoom, with several members sharing images and talking photography! A very enjoyable evening.

This Tuesday, we are in the Poldrate , we will have presentations on Street Photography by two members, as well as 5 favourite images & a location by other members.

We are a friendly bunch, come a long and say Hello.

We had a fun practical evening focussing on Still Life, Flat Lay, High Key, Low Key …biscuits with coffee!

Last Tuesday we discussed all things composition with John Glynn Photography with good interaction by members!
Leading lines, rule of thirds etc.

This week we will be having a practical night , Still life & Flat Lay in the Low Key & High Keys styles
