Last trip to skomer, with only a few mins left before I had head for the boat, managed to get this little puffling popping is head out of a burrow then had to hot foot it to catch the boat in time 🤣😁

Something different from my usual puffins shots, razorbills nest on the edges or cliffs and not the easiest to photograph, at least for me any way, but im happy with this turned out, Skomer has pretty big colony and find this birds fascinating, average life span of 13 years and they can dive to depths of over a 100 meters 😱

You'd be surprised how fast these little guys swim underwater, 10mph is pretty fast and in flight they can reach speeds of 55mph

Help to protect our seabirds from predators 🐀

There have been several sightings of rats in Martins Haven over the past month. This is a concern. Rats and other ground predators can and have made their way to seabird islands where they decimate seabird populations.

Preventing predators like rats reaching the islands is our top priority. One pregnant rat can produce a colony of over 300 in just 8 months! The simple truth is that rats eat seabird eggs, chicks and adult birds, destroying populations.

If you are visiting Skomer or Skokholm Islands, help us (and the birds) by: ⬇️

- Taking all rubbish and food waste home with you. Scraps like apple cores, banana skins and sandwich crusts may seem harmless but are much loved by rats

- Packing your bags and boxes securely. They must be zipped or sealed before they will be allowed on any boat. Please note, bags for life, tote bags and carrier bags are not permitted on board

- Not leaving your luggage unattended in Martin’s Haven to ensure rodents cannot enter your bags
