Throwback to 2019 - .ferrari rappelling into the deep slot of Blue Creek in New Zealand's Kahurangi National Park.

Blue Creek is unique in that, apart from a few small static pools, it is completely dry due to the river that carved it having found an alternative route beneath the surface, leaving a deep dark slot full of beautiful rock formations, gravelled narrows and interesting rappels from top to bottom.

On this day 9 years ago...

One of my all time favourite days out, ever! Sport climbing on the magnificent Sundial, a huge pointy block that protrudes from the West face of the Remarkables, in warm mid-Winter sunshine. Views out over Lake Wakatipu and the snow capped Cecil Peak standing tall over on the opposite shore. Behind the lens is my camera perched on its tripod in amongst the snow and speargrass, clicking away as we climbed.

following up the penultimate pitch, leading the final pitch and then rappelling off of ‘Pattinaggio Artistico’ (Figure Skating 🇬🇧) (WI3***) - one of the many long classic ice routes in the Cogne valley easily reached in under an hour from the hotel in Lillaz, and easily seen from the balcony! Last photo shows the route as seen from the hotel, the left-hand fall of the two distinct lines in the centre-left of the image.
