The "Northern Reaches" of the Lancaster Canal are currently non-navigable due, at least in part, to the 8 locks at Tewitfield being "bricked up". Rather than the usual lock gates, each lock now works like a weir.

Another "extra" day off work, hopefully this will become a regular occurance, and a trip to Borwick, where I walked along to Tewitfield then carried on along the "Northern Reaches" which is currently non-navigable.

Not the quietest walk as the towpath runs parallel with, and very close to, the southbound carriageway of the M6. Nevertheless, I had a lovely stroll.

The first three pictures are of a family of ducks, Mum with 8 babies. One kept going off on his own, another seemed to always be facing the wrong way, and I just about managed to get them all in one shot 😆

Next up are a couple of Barn Swallows, which I have often seen, but have never been able to photograph before, they have always flown off before I've managed to get them in focus.

Then we have a couple of Greenfinch, another first for me, and a couple of Grey Wagtail.

Finally a lovely little rabbit.

Having been offered, and accepted, a days leave today, I decided to take a stroll down to the boating lake as I had heard there were some goslings. I wasn't disappointed as I saw this couple with two young and another pair of adults with three young as soon as I arrived. The babies didn't take much notice and were busy grazing under the watchful eyes of the adults.

As I was getting ready to move on I noticed, something in the water which I initially thought was a blanket or towel, however as I approached I realised that it was a mother duck with her brood or TEN, yes 10 ducklings. I think they are all in the first photo, but I'm not sure, they are definitely all in the second photo, although no. 10 is only it's head 🤭

The last of my photos from the Nature Reserve yesterday (at least for now).

This lovely sparrow flew in then hopped down for a quick drink, before flying back off into the bushes.

Managed to get some photos of the goslings at the reserve, although Mum was keeping an eye on me and hiding the youngsters away in the reeds to begin with.

I counted 4 youngsters, all of which are in the photo if the adult on the pebbles, can you spot them all?

Lovely stroll around the Nature Reserve this morning. 2 families of Coots, the first were the 2 adults with two little chicks, whilst the second was, or appeared to be, a single adult with an older chick.

Some more photos from my walk round Stanley Park.

The first, I think, is a juvenile robin, who appeared to crouch down and spread it's wings and tail, as though trying to disappear into the ground.

Then we have a Dunnock followed by a Nuthatch, who was being a bit camera shy this morning, and this was about the only decent photo I managed all the rest were of his/her rear end 🤭

Then a couple of Grebe and finally a Moorhen.

I don't often post "portrait" orientation pictures these days, mainly because they don't work as well cross-posted to Instagram, so I'm only posting these on Facebook.

A Canada goose standing guard with one of the goslings nearby, the others were just out of shot.

A couple of heron. The first one looks like he has "bed hair" 😂🤣

Finally a Parakeet helping himself to the seed in the bird feeder. He wasn't impressed with how much work he had to do due to the small holes in the feeder.

Lovely, warm walk round Stanley Park this morning, enjoying the lovely babies, some of whom seem to be growing up fast.

The first picture is, I think, a juvenile coot.

Then a couple of ducklings (out of a brood of nine) who are just starting to grow their proper feathers.

Then we have a couple of Goslings on the grass, followed by, I think, 6 all snuggled up together.

Finally we have a swan, standing guard over their young ones. Again I think I counted 6, but I didn't want to get too close.

More photos to follow 😉

Some more photos from my walk along the canal from Glasson this morning.

Goslings who were staying close to Mum and Dad.

A Little Egret looking for dinner, some Oyster Catchers who were sitting in the grass across the canal, the larger one looked like it might be sitting on eggs as it didn't move, unlike the one at the bottom of the picture.

A Pied Avocet (I believe), which is a first for me.

A pair of Shelducks and finally a swan.
