On Friday I joined Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay MSP and David Mundell MP for easygoing afternoon at Velvethall Alpacas in the Tweed Valley.

Russell and David visited Stuart Ramsay and his magnificent beasts to hear first‑hand about the challenges and realities of running a business in rural Scotland, and how the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments can better support the rural economy.

Something to look forward to in the dark days of January. Four days of ‘Wild Writers’ in the glorious Tweed Valley.

The ‘Wild Writers Festival 2026’ returns to Peebles Eastgate Theatre for its fourth consecutive year later this month. (29th January – 1st February 2026)

The festival is a mix of author talks, Q&As, adventure films and guided events - walks, runs and wild swimming. It promises to be an inspiring weekend and a great excuse to visit Peebles and the wider Scottish Borders.

The festival line-up includes Jules and Greg’s Wild Swim, modern adventurer Mollie Hughes ultra runner and leading sports dietician Renee McGregor and the Pacific Ocean crossing The Maclean Brothers.

I’m delighted to be the festival photographer for 4 days of everything outdoors. Come and say hello if you see me dodging about!

Yesterday was the last day of 'Last Century Antiques & Books' on Innerleithen High Street. After 27 years of running their maginificent secondhand bookshop, Keith and Gill have closed the doors and retired. Wishing them all the best and a long and happy retirement.
