If you’re familiar with my work you’ll know by now how much I love capturing extended family sessions. I just don’t see many photographers sharing these kinds of sessions but they are such a joy to capture and to be able to document for families. They become family heirlooms for your clients, and yes maybe it’s a bit tricker and you have to think a lot more about composition and the image dynamics with lots of different subjects with different relationships to each other, but that is also part of the art of it.
I met this family in the cairngorms a few weeks ago to capture them exploring Scotland all together and we connected so much, had so much fun together, and have come away with some of my favourite images yet.
In many ways I see myself and my own family in the families I capture (I’m a water sign what can I say!!!) and the emotional connection I feel with them helps me to capture them the way I’d want my family captured. I think of my grandparents and how special it was growing up with them. I think of my own parents and their relationships with my children. And getting to create art out of that kind of love is such a privilege!!
So here are some of the photos we took together when I met the Whaites at Forter Castle! What a lovely morning we spent together!
