One of the most common things I hear from parents before a newborn photography session is something like:

“We probably don’t need that long.” or
“Our toddler won’t last very long.”

And honestly - I completely understand the thought behind that.
But newborn photography sessions are designed to move at baby’s pace.
There are pauses for feeding, settling, diaper changes, and sometimes just giving everyone a moment to breathe.
Toddler siblings may step in and out of photos, and parents are gently guided so everything feels natural rather than rushed.
Those little pauses are often what allow the most meaningful moments to happen.
Every baby is different. Every family dynamic is different.
Giving the session time and flexibility allows me to capture natural newborn photos, parent and baby connection, and those quiet early moments that define the newborn stage.
These early days pass quickly - but your newborn portraits and family photographs will last for generations.

This is the reason why I love this pose 🤍
The “wrap around” pose is one of my favourites during newborn sessions because it beautifully reflects the natural way babies curl up and feel most comfortable.
When a baby is gently wrapped and posed in this position, you can often see a familiar little shape — tucked arms, curled legs, and that peaceful, folded posture that reminds us of how they were positioned during pregnancy.
Of course, every baby’s position in the womb is unique, but this pose captures that same feeling of closeness, warmth and security. It brings back a little glimpse of the tiny baby who was once curled up so safely, just waiting to meet the world.
Those little fingers, the tucked chin, the tiny toes… these details change so quickly. ✨

1. Don’t worry about whether your little one will perform for the camera.
There is no right or wrong. Some babies dive straight in to their cake and some take their time and try to pick up the tiniest sprinkles. Your session tells your little one’s story in their own way.
2. Chill!
The more relaxed you are, the better everything tends to go babies really pick up on how their parents are feeling. We take care of everything including the cake so you can relax and go with the flow.
3. Your baby will probably enjoy the bath the more than the cake
After the cake, the little clean-up bath is when we capture most smiles, babies tend to relax more when they do things that they are already familiar with such a warm bath so those cute genuine smiles are the best ❤️
