What comes before Pool Part-B? POOL PART-AAAAY!!! 🏊‍♂️🍹🌞

Sam & Debbie’s Wedding Day 🇮🇹📸

These two met in the usual way- an underground rifle range in London. Debbie grew up near Milan so it was a beautiful homecoming to have their wedding day at Agriturismo Castello di Vezio just next to Lake Como.

Debbie got ready outside a lake house with incredible views and then after a mad dash up the hill they had a (pretty warm) outdoor ceremony which Sam’s Aunty Veronica hosted.

There were readings and speeches through the day in English, Italian and Bulgarian and family had come from these countries and many more. We ate outside and danced in the evening. The band were brilliant and got everyone moving (not that some family members needed the invitation!) Such a good party.

Friday Night on Lake Como

I just got back from covering an amazing three day wedding for Sam & Debbie and this was my very first time to Lake Como and I hope it isn’t the last. The views from Castello di Vezio were breathtaking and the people I met were so welcoming. Guests came from all corners of the globe and as Debbie is part Bulgarian a tradition is for the Groom to rescue her before the wedding. What better setting than a real life Castle complete with drawbridge and a Knight helmet!? It was bonkers and I loved it. Wedding day previews soon!

How old can you be and still work as a Wedding Photographer?

It’s a question I ask myself a lot. 50 years old? 60 years old? Today I met Dennis in Dartford who was photographing probably his last ever wedding. Dennis turns 90 this year?! What a legend! I want to be passionate about photography if I get to that age.

Dennis really inspired me today. If you’re still good at what you do at an older age and you really love it why not carry on?!

Jack & Lydia’s wedding picked up a Story Award in the latest This is Reportage Collection!

This wedding at Canterbury Cathedral was down the road from where I live and was full of celebration and joy!

I can’t quite believe that the last two weddings I’ve shot have both got story awards! Only 24 of these story awards were handed out and 10,000 images were submitted!

Thanks Jack & Lydia for being so easy to photograph and for saying such lovely things having seen all your images this weekend. Thanks also to TiR and the judges for the last round. It’s an honour being part of a truly documentary wedding photography organisation 📸🥳

I just won two This is Reportage story awards 🏆🥳📸

I’m buzzing this morning picking up not one but two story awards. This one for Varun & Parisa’s amazing wedding in Wembley that I shot in April.

This wedding had celebration, colour, tender and funny moments and I feel like I was able to be really creative with compositions. I was really keen to submit it as an entry. Getting a story award is hard- you enter 15-20 images from one wedding to tell a story of the day. Thousands of entries lead to just a few winners.

Care Home Visit

Parisa mentioned that after their ceremony and celebrations had finished they were heading over to see her Nan in a care home. I really wanted to go along with them to document this. Her Nan has dementia and struggles to remember people but as we entered the care home Parisa’s Nan smiled at her and clasped her hands. It was really moving to see.

At times people can think that wedding photography can be shallow or indulge in vanity. It’s times like this care home visit that make me realise how much significance and depth wedding photography can have. I felt emotional whilst capturing these images but I know that Parisa’s family will cherish these images for decades. I’m pleased I offered to come and photograph this time. Thanks Parisa, Varun and family for letting me.

Bananas 🍌 and Choosing the right Photographer 📸

I was shooting Bride prep and Parisa’s Sister was feeding her a banana. I remember feeling pretty cautious about photographing this so I started to take a couple of photos looking at Parisa with a “is this ok?!” Kind of expression.

Parisa said “Olly, we hired you for your documentary photos, you’ve got free rein, go for it!” I felt so relieved, so free and also so encouraged that this is a Bride who really gets my style!

It’s so important for a couple to book the right kind of wedding photographer. Some will take couples off to pose for hours, I blend into the day and capture the action. Varun & Parisa’s wedding is new on my blog this week. Bananas and all… 🍌

Some of my favourite images from Varun’s entrance to his wedding. He must have danced for a good half an hour solid. I loved framing these images with family and friends lining the steps and some chaps sat down outside the temple.
