Kinghorn Harbour Beach is under threat of being deregistered as an approved bathing beach due to high levels of Ecoli being recorded in beach water samples taken regularly by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). SEPA and Scottish Water are currently working throughout Kinghorn to identify the source of the problem within the sewer and water course network that flows through the town. The problem so far has been identified to be within a watercourse that issues onto the beach. The source may be one or more historic domestic foulwater connections to the watercourse within the extensive underground route of the burn. If the SEPA sampling continues to record poor water quality results much longer the beach will be declassified as a safe bathing water beach. This will be disasterous for Kinghorn in terms of our long established popularity with tourism, general visitors and the local community use, not to mention the many watersport users and groups who use and visit the beach.
As a community, and if a visitor to Kinghorn, we must not allow the Authorities to declassify our beach by ensuring that the work that needs to be done by SEPA and Scottish Water to find and resolve the problem is continued and completed properly now before declassification can be instigated. Melanie Ward M.P. has raised a petition to increase awareness and push the Scottish Government into dealing with this and other such issues around our coastline.

A new Whale Park has been established on a pristine viewpoint overlooking the Forth Estuary above the beach at . The old putting green that has lain largely disused is now a vibrant venue for whale watchers, locals and visitors alike - a picnic area with a panoramic view of the Forth, great artwork on the perimeter wall sets the scene, and information boards provide guidance on what can be seen, sightings of whales, dolphins, porpoises etc., and local history. A purpose built seating bench is now a popular venue for those who scan the Forth for visiting sea life, and catch a unique photograph. Set on the this is a growing venue for visitors hoping to stop and gaze over the estuary whatever their reason to do so - sometimes so busy it is difficult to find a seat!
