Producing visually engaging content from academic material provided by leading scholars in biology, anthropology, and ecology. Operating within the environmental humanities, my photographic practice examines vanishing landscapes affected by increased precipitation and coastal erosion, biodiversity loss caused by soil contamination, and the displacement of non-human habitats due to coal mining. To
communicate the ecological impact of heavy industry on the landscape, I merge experimental photography with science and ecology to construct new cartographies that break formalist thinking. My current research investigates how perceived fragments of waste that once shaped our social and cultural heritage now provide sheltered habitats for non-human species. Reimagining brownfield sites as places of potential, I consider whether experimental photography can be utilised to record the effects of industrial and ecological activities attributed to the Anthropocene. Nominated for the international Kyotographie KG+ Award in 2018, my imagery is influenced by Japanese aesthetics, adopting a subtle, minimalist, and contemplative style. Notable exhibitions in Japan include Tokyo Institute of Photography, Mirage Gallery in Kobe, and Art Spot Korin in Kyoto.
