I always try to get out snorkelling during the low spring tides as it can be easier to spot the marine life in shallower water. I was not disappointed at Elie this weekend! This video features just some of the species I saw, including three species of crab, dragonet (small fish), dahlia anemone, wrasse, sand eels, lobster, jellyfish and sea stickleback! 🐟🦀🤿 It was pretty windy so I stuck to the sheltered areas that I know well.
Safety note: Snorkelling can be dangerous. Always research a site before attempting to snorkel and make sure you understand the risks, including tides, swell, temperature and water quality. Don’t enter the water unless you're confident about the conditions and your own capabilities.

Summer at Cellardyke tidal pool, just one of the wonderful pools in the East Neuk that have been restored through community efforts. This picture was taken in August 2022 on one of my regular swimming trips, usually visiting Pittenweem and St Monans tidal pools on the same day! 🏊🌊🥰

Just a lobster out for a stroll... 🦞 I spotted this one at the bottom of a sheltered gully. It went under a low ledge then came out the other side where I was able to get a good look at its beautiful colouration. I don't see lobsters very often so it's always a treat when I do! 🥰🤿🌊
