One of the most exciting parts of a wedding day? The bouquet toss. 💐
It lasts about 5 seconds, but when it’s done well, it becomes one of those joyful, chaotic, laugh-out-loud moments that everyone remembers.
As your photographer, I don’t just stand back and hope for the best. I’ll guide you through it so it feels natural, relaxed and genuinely fun — no awkward crowd shuffling or rushed countdowns.
My simple bouquet toss guide for brides-to-be
1. Give me a quick heads-up beforehand
If you’re planning a bouquet toss, let me know during the day (or even better, before the wedding). I can choose the best spot for light, background and guest reactions.
2. Pick a clear open space
A terrace, garden, lawn or dance floor with a little room behind your guests works beautifully. We want space for movement and for the bouquet to be visible in the air.
3. Hold the bouquet low first
Start with it in front of you rather than already raised above your head. This gives me a lovely sequence of anticipation, laughter, the throw, and the reaction afterwards.
4. Turn slightly to one side
Standing at a slight angle looks more flattering in photos and helps create a better throwing motion.
5. Don’t rush the throw…
I’ll usually say something like:
“Girls... Are you ready, …on 3… Big smiles now, one… two… three… and throw it high!”
A higher throw gives us those beautiful in-flight bouquet shots and gives your guests a second to react.
6. Keep smiling afterwards.
The best images are often after the bouquet leaves your hands — the cheering, pointing, laughing and hugging are priceless.
