A recently re-edited version of a photo I took 10 years ago when Milla, the Amur Tiger had her 3 cubs. This was a particularly special photo as I have shared it several times already. Here is the story again...
I just wanted to say thank you for all the lovely comments regarding my last post about head tilts and thought I would share my other experience I touched on in that post.
10 years ago, Milla the Amur Tiger had 3 beautiful cubs. Around this time I had a series of events around me that meant I had 'lost my smile'. The doctor ordered me to go and find it again as I refused medication. I had heard these cubs were just emerging and venturing further into the enclosure with mum so I packed up my very amateurish camera, at that time, and set out for a days vigil at Marwell.
It got to 4pm. No sightings of the cubs... Mum, Milla, kept wandering in and out but that was it, until 4:05pm... Out came all three little bundles of joy and ventured quite far into the enclosure to explore and play on logs. They must of been 8-9 weeks old at that time.
Fast forward to the cubs being about 6 months old and I was a regular. The bug had well and truly bitten me and several other photographers, some of which sadly no longer visit.
On one occasion, one of the cubs came to lay at my feet in the enclosure, down the side that is currently blocked off for Luca. They chuffed and chuffed, rolled over and was just content.
That was pretty special right? Well, later in the day they had been fed and had settled for a nap so took the opportunity to have a look round the rest of the park and as I made my way back to the Tiger enclosure, there was a commotion at the pool side window. Everyone was playing in the pool. I couldnt get a clear shot so I improvised and hid in the bushes...
That same cub from the morning came and found me in the bushes and it was just me and the cub, I took some photos, then just stared at each other through the lens and with my own eyes. The enormous sense of calm and feeling that all of my problems and worries were lifted by this one encounter.
That cub, the Tigers as a family and Marwell as a whole, helped save me that day and I have been forever in debt to all.
Here is my photo I took that day...
