Here it is — a composite image of with the 12 August 2026 partial solar eclipse.

This has been a tough project to put together.

The eclipse was manually tracked and photographed over Ludgershall Castle — while trying to work around people wandering through the composition 🤮 — before spent the evening running around the base of the castle with a torch so I could capture around 50 separate frames to stack and bring out the detail in the ruin.

Each stage of the eclipse is also made from around five stacked images, with the final sequence following the actual path of the Sun across the sky.

Then came the processing. And I mean a LOT of processing — using Luminar Neo, ChatGPT and PhotoPills to plan, assemble and finish the final composite.

There is one solar frame missing from the sequence because the file repeatedly corrupted during editing. I still have absolutely no idea why!

It has definitely tested my patience, but I’m pleased to finally draw a line under it and call it finished.

I hope you enjoy it — let me know what you think in the comments.

Believe it or not, this was about 5mm in width. Lighting was a pain in the ass and the focus isn’t as sharp from stacking - but that’s for another day.
