August 9, 2026,
Sunday Evening,
Esquimalt Memorial Park, Esquimalt, British Columbia

The Peacekeeper's Memorial Service honouring the thousands of Canadians who served missions around the world. Approximately 125,000 Canadians served in Peacekeeping missions since 1948.

This date, 52 years ago since the fatal flight of 9 CAF members died when it was shot down over Syria which was the largest loss of life for Canadian Peacekeepers. Lt Colonel (Rtd) Paul Paone was the last to see his friends load onto the flight and see them depart. He spoke their names and "they will never be forgotten."

It was a beautiful evening for the Service. An opportunity to meet up with old friends and make new friends.

I was invited to attend the Service by my good friend, John Penner. Whilst at the service, I met up with my old Friend, Lt Commander Paul Seguna, who I met & worked with during my Days with the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve (HMCS Scotian 1976-81).

After, I served in the RCMP for 31 years (1982-2013). Many RCMP colleagues served in the Peacekeeping Role. A few did not make it home.

This event is held every year. It is worth attending and honouring our Peacekeepers.

A few images from the evening!! If you would like an image, please contact me. This is one of my many volunteer hats!

Cheers,

Michael
