The good old Canada Goose. Majestic, territorial pest. They mate for life. During the breeding season, they molt, losing their flight feathers for 20-40 days and only regain them around the time the goslings start to fly.

Meet the Red-necked Grebe. I found this guy in SE Calgary. They are migratory birds that breed and summer in Canada, mostly in shallow lakes. In the winter they can be found on calm waters on ocean coasts. They are particularily good swimmers and when they feel threatened they will typically dive under the water rather than fly. Their diet is mostly insects and their larve along with small fish, molluscs and crayfish.

The Osprey is a large raptor that reaches more than 2 feet in length and can have a wingspan of almost 6 feet. This fish-eating bird of prey is found on every continent except Antarctica. While you will find them in South America, they only migrate to and from there, but do not breed there. As their diet is almost entirely fish, they can normally be found near bodies of water that will provide an ample food supply.
This one was looking for its next meal at Ralph Klein Park.

Have you ever seen these beautiful Double-crested Cormorants standing on the shore of a river or lake with their wings spread wide to the sun? They do that to dry their wings, because they don't have the same waterproofing oils on their feathers as duck do. Not having the oils helps them dive deeper and faster, in order to catch their prey. I saw these two at Ralph Klein Park.

Goodbye moon. This was the last shot I took of the eclipse before the clouds swallowed it. I did love how moody it turned out. This would be a good image for Halloween.

Just continuing on the Lunar Eclipse. It was cool watching it happen. The progression here took place over about an hour and a half.

Here is another shot from the lunar eclipse.
