Someone had asked, "if you don't cull these horses, who would take them in? They are in the middle of nowhere?"
Fair point. Did you know that in October 2025, the NSW govt announced plans to allocate 500 hectares (about 500 - 700 soccer fields) to an Adventure park outside Jindabyne (https://www.nsw.gov.au/ministerial-releases/new-world-class-adventure-for-snowy-mountains-gears-up ).
Did you also know that the infrastructure for the Snowy Mountain Hydro has a land footprint of 10,000 hectares in Mt Kosciuszko, including sensitive fragile ecosystems in alpine and sub-alpine areas destroyed to make way for access roads, transmission lines and an industrial zone
(https://npansw.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/SNOWY-2.0-fact-sheet-FINAL.pdf )
So if the govt is willing to tear up 10,500 hectares of land for these projects...surely, they can spare some land for the brumbies to exist and be managed with fertility control and other humane management methods.
The govt is culling because they sat on their hands and so once again, communities around Mt Kosciuszko NP and throughout Australia and the horses are paying the price for their inaction.
Voice your opposition to Premier Chris Minns, encourage him and his government to find alternative, more humane solutions. Culling should not be the default button.
