What is cocktail hour? 🍸 - Ft Claudia, Benjamin and all their favourite people.

In 2026, I feel like cocktail hour has become less of a “thing to fill the gap” and more of a genuinely important part of the wedding day. It’s that window of time after the ceremony has finished when everyone gets to relax with a drink in hand, catch up with a familiar face and soak in the fact that you’ve just got married.

For me, it’s also a chance to capture the little stuff happening around you. The dads catching up over a b**r, your reception styling before it gets gate-crashed by guests, the girls in their matching outfits, or the more standard group photo with you and your mates.

During my meetings, and if the wedding run sheet allows for it, I’ll throw out the idea of spending some of cocktail hour with your guests rather than immediately disappearing for an hour of portraits. You’ve spent the last few hours getting ready, dealing with nerves and standing in front of a large crowd with all eyes watching you... why not take 30 minutes to decompress?

Grab a drink and actually hang out with the people you invited? We can still sneak away afterwards for some portraits while the light is doing its thing.

From a Hinge match to a Santorini sunset proposal, and now the most colourful wedding day... with a Mr Whippy ice cream van!

Niklas was the English backpacker who never left Cairns because Caitlin, and possibly her Great Dane Daisy, stole his heart. It’s the most Cairns love story ever, and I bloody love it! Fun fact: it’s actually the same way my parents met. My mum was once a Danish backpacker that never left Cairns, so Niklas and Caitlin’s story is extra cool.

Tucked away in the cane fields, Niklas and Caitlin had their dream day, with countless flowers in every colour, guests who travelled all the way from the UK to rip up the dance floor, and, did I mention, a Mr Whippy van?!

I may have lined up first, snuck in an ice cream, and headed to the dance floor with one hand on the camera and the other holding an ice cream 😏

Another destination wedding for the books with Claudia & Ben 🌴 A quick fly-in, fly-out trip to Port Douglas to witness a celebration 13 years in the making.

I first met Claudia eight years ago at another wedding, and since then life happened. They had little Cody, built a life together, and eventually Ben got a weak knee 😏 Then the day finally arrived.

A pretty bloody special one to be there for.

Taylah and Nic engagement session at their avocado farm.

With their wedding coming up next year, this was the perfect excuse to get to know these two before the big day. Nic gave me a tour of the farm, taught me more about avocado trees than I ever thought I'd know, and filled me in on his first harvest coming up soon.

Getting to know a couple before their wedding is always a win, but walking away with a little extra knowledge too? I'll happily take that 👍🏼

Dropping something a little different today. I can't remember the last time I shared an engagement session, but it feels like the right time... mainly because people are getting engaged, and I should probably remind everyone that I photograph more than just weddings 🙃

The last few months have been full of incredible couples and even better hangs during their engagement sessions. Last week I had the chance to photograph Rebecca & Matt at a few locations they'd sussed out themselves.

Unfortunately, I wasn't available to capture their wedding day, but I'm so grateful I still had the opportunity to get to know them, help them feel comfortable in front of the camera, and show them a few moves they can pull off on the big day.
