I had the privilege of capturing one of the most emotional, beautiful and unforgettable days of my life.
The day my mum said goodbye to her home on earth.
The home she had filled with years of memories, beautiful things she had collected and treasured, photographs of the people she loved, keepsakes and heirlooms that told stories of our family. The garden she poured so much love into, her passion, her happy place. And her much-loved cat, Meeka, who had been by her side for 14 years.
We all gathered there that day. Her seven children and her partner, the people she loved most. There were tears, there was laughter, there were stories, and there was so much love.
Even through everything her body was going through, we looked at Mum and still saw the most beautiful woman.
Loving you through the end of your life on earth. It was never about finding the perfect words.
It was about being there.
Choosing to witness it.
Loving you, right until your final hours.
It was the greatest privilege of my life, wrapped in the deepest pain I have ever known.
I believe our souls are eternal. That we come into this life to learn, to love, to suffer, to experience joy, heartbreak and everything in between.
And although I wish with everything in me that I had more time with you, I am so grateful I got to love you in this lifetime. Thank you for giving me the most profound sense of belonging, and loving me with every inch of your being.
