"Squirrel babies on the loose!" - Something warm and fuzzy to get your day started. So many sweet family moments to share between squirrel mom and her 3 babies. Lots of smooches, touches, and even moments when mom gently reigns in her adventurous little ones. I've always enjoyed watching squirrels and their many funny antics, but seeing these interactions was truly the best of all. Have a great day! 🥰 Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Favorite moments captured" - I spent most of the day with these amazing animals trying to take photos and video that would capture their essence...show the strength of the lions, the innocence of a young chimpanzee, and even the sense of humor of an older chimp. North Carolina Zoo, Asheboro, North Carolina

"Fun and interesting time spent with the animals" - some of my favorites...chimpanzee with a sense of humor, lion mates, baboons fighting, restless elephant, and a snapping turtle with green 'hair' - love wildlife surprises! North Carolina Zoo, Asheboro, North Carolina

"Young chimpanzee growing up" - Enjoying his independence, 3-yr old 'Gombe' roams the habitat fearlessly among his troop. He'll stay close to mom for up to 8 years, but interacts confidently now with others. Gombe's mom 'Gigi' shows strong love and protection for her 'toddler,' while still other members of the troop also have developed strong bonds and help watch over him. Amazing to realize that chimpanzees are our closest living relatives sharing 98.8% of DNA matched side by side The longer you watch them the more of us you can see in them, and vice versa. I could watch this little one all day! 🥰 North Carolina Zoo, Asheboro, North Carolina

"Young gators hunting and crossing" - A close up look at some younger gators. I'm always fascinated by these amazing 'living dinosaurs' and their complex lifestyle. Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Message received loud and clear!" - alligator's territorial head slap lets gators and humans alike know that this is its space. Moments later it walks away slowly exposing a swollen ankle. There's rarely a gator that doesn't have an injury to overcome through life. Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Gator crossing and resting on the trail" - Sometimes they're looking for a quick exit, other times they just want to take a rest on the trail. I'm amazed at how much some gators 'trust' humans and just spread out 'swamp puppy' style! 😁 Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, Florida

"Birds and the Bees" - Enjoyed my return to this 3,850-acre wetland conservation area and one of the premier inland bird-watching sites in New England. So many hummingbirds, goldfinches, and song sparrows enjoying late summer blossoms. Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Concord, Massachusetts

"One of these animals is not like the others" - 6-month old Asian elephant calf "Linh Mai' learns how to control her trunk just like a human baby learns how to control its hands. This process can take up to a year, but in the meantime it's so cute to watch her maneuvers. Elephants need companionship and often socialize in water holes...an absolutely wonderful experience watching their joyful connections. I didn't spend a lot of time watching the Chacoan peccaries, but I just love their facial expressions and had to include this sad-looking 'mug.' Endangered Chacoan peccaries look like they would belong to the pig family, but they are actually a different species found in Central and South America. Smithsonian National Zoo, Washington, DC

"In awe of Flamingos" - While watching this flamboyance of flamingos I couldn't help but remember back to 2023 and Hurricane Idalia that brought an unprecedented wave of Caribbean flamingos into Florida and as far north as Ohio and Pennsylvania. I remember hearing from a friend that there were even sightings on Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. I was fortunate to see a couple of these beauties at Ft. DeSoto near St. Pete in Florida at the time. Love them! Smithsonian National Zoo, Washington, DC
