'Photographed the season opening performance of Queensland Symphony Orchestra on Saturday evening, the performance of masterpiece after musical masterpiece was a treat for the eyes and ears.
The professional debut of young eighteen year old cellist Patrick Phillips was awesome! Everything else ranged from the sublime to the ridiculously good. Thanks QSO.

Another year that had the typical mix of ups and downs, challenges and successes, but when it came to photography, it was diverse, fun and rewarding.
I started the year on a photo essay for an agency about mixed grazing of goats and cattle out west Warwick, which was a change of scenery and a reminder of the quiet beauty of dry country.
La Boite had a season over three months called Encore which represented past plays from La Boite’s 100-year history. Actors read off the page with virtually no rehearsal: it was testimony to the skill of the actors, the power of scripts and the rich history of La Boite as the producers of great theatre, and each of the plays was surprisingly entertaining even when stripped of lighting, sets and costumes. Also photographed rehearsals for We're All Going to Die which was a brilliant collaboration between La Boite and Dead Puppets.
The English-Speaking Awards was hosted at Government House with the legendary Rolly Sussex amongst others in attendance.
Mid-year saw a new Grand Master invested at the Masonic Lodge in Ann Street, with pomp and pageantry.
Redeemer College at Rochdale performed another incredible production at the QUT Gardens Theatre. They have a dynamic musical theatre program powered by the mercurial Kelly Redhead- Adelt.
The International River Foundation’s annual symposium came to Brisbane this year, hosted at The Star Casino. Held over three days it was a fascinating look at the state of rivers around the world and how to protect them, with the Awards held on the closing night.
Poetry in Action also came to town and a few lucky schools enjoyed the presentation of classic poetry in the hands of three talented actors who brought the works to life; equal parts thought-provoking and hilarious.
I was also lucky to work with Endeavour Foundation on several occasions documenting events at their sites, Rydges Hotel South Bank, and the Weekend Edition of the Great Endeavour Rally at Imbil State Forest over a frosty weekend.
Niche Media continued to produce quality events in Brisbane, one being a presentation night at Cult - a shortlist of commercial designers presenting their recent stunning works.
Southern Cross Soloists performed their series at QPAC and held their annual Chamber Music Festival on Tamborine Mountain in August; simply sublime performances of the most beautiful music.
I returned to La Boite late in the year to shoot the production of Congratulations, Get Rich! which was a brave, heartfelt, bittersweet telling of the writer and lead actor’s family story, which was topped off by a marriage proposal on stage closing night😊
I also wrapped the year of performance photography returning to Queensland Theatre Company and the Playhouse, QPAC for A Few Good Men. It was a stupendous retelling of the classic tale we all know, and bristling with energy, wit and drama - a masterclass in entertaining theatre.
And to finish off the year, I had a few canines modelling for me 🐶. More to come in 2026. Huge thanks to everyone for the opportunity to work together on some amazing projects. Happy New Year everyone! 🎇

A Few Good Men is Queensland Theatre Company's final play of the year, and it's on now at the Playhouse , It's been a thrill to photograph and a real blast from the past in a couple of ways. The play pumps with energy and under Dan Evans’ direction all the cast inhabit their characters and take the audience on a trip , aided by brilliant set and costume design by Simone Romaniuk and
masterly lighting from Ben Hughes and all the crew, definitely see it if you can!

As for the blasts from the past: In December 1990 I left Bris on a year-long, round-the-world ticket that included a stop either side of the major destination, with my then partner Jo. Our first stop was NYC for Xmas. One snowy night we were huddled beside the steam pipe that ran through our apartment watching a local tv station and a story came on about a play that was closing in a little off broadway theatre. Neither of us had been into theatre but we thought let’s do a NYC thing and go to a Broadway play!
It was a great experience and the play went on to be produced into a smash hit film that we all know. Now Dan and QTC have breathed new life into it and it is truly sensational and entertaining.

The other thread from the past is working with the great Hayden Spencer who plays Colonel Jessop: I worked with him on my first gig with QTC photographing rehearsal shots for The Lonesome West in 2003. It was so cool to be back in the same room again.

For old times sake Jo is travelling down from Mareeba to see it with Von and myself next week:) If you like a good story and want to support great work go and see it!!

Southern Cross Soloists finished their 2025 season on a high at the Concert Hall last Sunday. The music the movement and the stories were sublime!
As the Program put it:
"Step into a world where friendship, love, and artistry intertwine. More than a concert, Wonder explores the poignant story of the entwined lives of Robert and Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms through music, movement and the words of their letters.
From Clara’s Romances to Robert’s haunting Ghost Variations and Brahms’s tender late Intermezzi, the music traces a journey of heartbreak and enduring inspiration. In a special collaboration with the Queensland Ballet Jette Parker Young Artists, these intimate works of love, grief, and friendship are woven with a luminous new composition for didgeridoo and ensemble by Ray Lin and Chris Williams."
Bring on Season 2026!
