I get asked a lot whether winter is actually a good time to book.

And I always say yes- but not just because of the light, though the light really is something special this time of year.

It's because of how families show up differently in winter.

Nobody is overheated. Nobody is worried about sunscreen or shade or whether the kids are going to melt before we even start. The beach is quiet. There's space to breathe.

And something about that quietness makes people settle into each other faster.

That's when I get the images that really matter. Not the ones where everyone is trying hard. The ones where everyone just... is.

One day your kids will be grown.

And you'll have these images to look back on. Not because you had a perfect day, but because you showed up for an ordinary one and made it matter.

That's what family photos are really for.

Not just the wall art, though that's beautiful too. Not the Instagram post.

For the quiet moments at home when you pull them out and remember exactly how small they were, how loud the beach was, how much they made you laugh that afternoon.

Most families I speak to assume winter isn't a great time for photos.

Too cold. Too grey. Too early sunset.

Here's what actually happens at a Bribie Island winter session:

The sun sets earlier, which means your session time is school-friendly and nap-friendly and bed-time and dinner friendly. The light is softer and longer-lasting than summer. The beach is quieter. The kids aren't melting. The parents are actually relaxed.

And that golden hour feeling you see in my favourite images? That's a winter thing as much as it's a summer thing.

Every season in Moreton Bay is beautiful. Winter just has a different kind of magic.

Okay I’m just going to say it. I’m a finalist in the Local Business Awards again and this year I’m actually asking for votes. 🏆

Last year I made it this far and told no one. Like, not a single person. My middle boy found my cool finalist sticker and stuck it on his window and that was it. I was so embarrassed to ask you and then I just watched the whole thing go by.

I don’t want to do that again.
I’m learning that if you don’t ask, know one knows, and they don’t get a chance to help.

So im asking this year. And I’m still embarasssed 😆

Hi, I'm Alix.

I'm a family and personal branding photographer based on Bribie Island, and I want to tell you a little bit about how I work- because it's a bit different.

Most photographers will tell you to pose and smile. That's not really my standard go to....

I blend documentary storytelling with gently guided moments, which means I'm watching for the real stuff- the way your kid reaches for your hand, the look your partner gives you when they think no one's watching- while also making sure you feel comfortable and know where to stand.

You get the candid and the beautiful. Not one or the other.

"Our kids never sit still. Is that okay?"

Yes. That's actually the whole point.

The families I photograph aren't posed and perfect. They're chasing each other across the sand, flopping down when they're done, doing that thing where the toddler runs the opposite direction and everyone laughs.

That's the stuff you want on your wall in ten years.

I don't need your kids to cooperate. I just need to show up with your family and let things unfold.

The chaos is welcome. The noise is welcome. The unscripted moments are exactly what we're here for. And don’t worry- the games i have in store will also get you the wall-worthy everyone-in-the-same-frame pictures, without it even feeling like a pose.

You love them. You show everyone. You save them to your camera roll.

And then they sit there.

I hear this from so many families. The photos are beautiful, I just haven't done anything with them yet.

Most small business owners I work with say the same thing before their shoot.

I just want something that actually looks like me.

Not overly polished. Not stiff. Not stock-photo generic.

Just them- in their element, doing the work they love, in a way that feels natural.
