So, what does a Tiger Trails trip actually look like?

Once you arrive in Delhi, your airport transfer and hotel are taken care of, and we meet for dinner before the adventure begins.

Then it’s into tiger country. On safari days, we start, before sunrise for our morning drive, return to the lodge for lunch and a break, then head back into the park for the afternoon.

Between drives, there’s time to relax, swim, go through photographs or work with me on your photography and editing.

One day is different: our special full-day safari, allowed us to stay inside the park all day with extended access!

Accommodation, meals, internal flights, key transfers, drinks, photography guidance and editing support are included.

And always, only 2 photographers per jeep!

The idea is simple: once you’re there, you can focus on the wildlife, your photography and enjoying India.

One of my favorite things about photographing wildlife in India is never knowing what the forest is going to give us.

You can be watching and listening for ages, and then suddenly everything changes. A tiger appears, a sloth bear emerges from the trees, or something completely unexpected becomes the moment everyone talks about that evening.

That anticipation is a huge part of why I love photographing here.

You just never know what the next drive will bring.

I woke up feeling really angry this morning.

Yesterday, the news broke that Red Wolf 2503F was killed in a vehicle strike. She had recently given birth to pups.

We’ve been here before…way too many times. And every time, the sadness of losing yet another animal that is literally on the brink of extinction washes over me like a massive wave. But this hits differently.

There has been some incredibly encouraging news recently about wildlife crossings being approved and slated for implementation. But those crossings are still years away. In the meantime, these animals continue to die. And I’m starting to question both the viability and the wisdom of continuing to release these critically endangered animals into areas where they are repeatedly being killed by vehicles. Why has not implemented reduced speed limits in these areas? Why aren’t speed cameras being used? If we want to change driver behavior, then penalize speeding in these areas with substantial fines. I guarantee you people will slow down.

I have driven these roads at the posted speed limit or below, and I am constantly passed by drivers who are speeding, including enormous 18 wheelers. These are not multi lane highways. They are roads with one lane in each direction, cutting directly through the only remaining habitat for one of the most endangered mammals in the world.

We don’t know what happened in this particular case, and tragedies like this can happen even when a driver is alert and traveling at a responsible speed. But the reality is that slower speeds give drivers more time to see an animal, react, and stop and can prevent many of these deaths.

I don’t know what will become of her pups. They would be weaned by now, but they are still young and inexperienced and have not yet fully learned how to hunt and survive on their own. I desperately hope their father, (3rd photo) will continue to provide for them.

I’m angry. I’m heartbroken. And I’m frustrated that we continue to have the same conversations while these animals continue to die.

My apologies for the rant. I try very hard to keep this page positive and uplifting, but today I just don’t have it in me.

Tiger Trails is back for 2027, and this year there are two ways to join me in India!

Our first departure is a 12-day adventure through Kanha and Bandhavgarh National Parks.

Then, for anyone who has less time, I’m leading a second 8-day departure focused entirely on Bandhavgarh.

Both trips are small, with just 2–8 guests and only two photographers per safari jeep.

Our group was so fortunate to have spent quite a lot of time with the most beautiful puma on the landscape, Petaka.

This was one of those moments that makes you stop photographing for just a second and simply take it all in. Petaka had climbed onto the rocky ridge and paused there, completely at ease, looking out across the landscape before turning her gaze toward us.

There is something incredibly special about seeing a wild puma in this setting, surrounded by the vast Patagonian landscape, with nothing but open sky behind her. And Petaka has a presence that is difficult to put into words. She is powerful, graceful and utterly captivating.

How adorable is this judgy little Pygmy Owl, about the size of my fist? 😂🦉

The Austral Pygmy Owl may be tiny, only about 8 inches tall but apparently didn’t get the memo that size should determine attitude. These little owls are fierce predators, hunting insects, small mammals, birds and reptiles, and they’re often active during the day.

And those intense yellow eyes? They seem perfectly suited to the job of silently judging everyone who walks by. 🤣🤔
