At Hyatt Place Newark, the outdoor courtyard extends the life of the lobby beyond its walls. The fire pit, seating areas, and connection to Main Street create a place where guests can gather long after check-in.

This south-facing elevation opens fully to light, views, and outdoor living. Large expanses of glass connect the interior spaces to the landscape, while roof overhangs and covered areas help shade the home during the summer months.

From this vantage point, what you see is ease. What you don't see is the restraint behind it.

The pool, deck and clubhouse step naturally into the hillside, reducing the need for excessive site work while still creating a strong visual presence. Outside the frame, the site slopes steadily away, which could have meant heavy retaining walls, complex structure, and a lot of hidden cost. The design works with the site.

Good design often looks simple. That is because the hard decisions were made early.

Here, the focus was on creating an outdoor environment that feels complete in itself—a place to gather, unwind, and take in the Chesapeake Bay. The pool, pool house, and surrounding landscape work together to create a destination rather than simply an addition to the property.
From this vantage point, the design extends outward. The water, the horizon, and the built environment create a continuous experience that feels connected to the site rather than placed upon it.
