That first photo speaks exactly to what the newborn bubble looks like — they are the center of your universe, the capturer of all your attention and the number one priority.
But what about the part nobody talks about?
How much this transition shifts the dynamic of your marriage/relationship.
It’s a shift unlike anything we felt before we had our first baby. We were no longer husband and wife, but mom and dad. Roommates. Ships passing.
My love for my husband grew when we had our baby, but I also felt like I didn’t recognize him anymore?
Running on little sleep, feeling out of control and totally unaware of how to get my baby to stop crying, how to breastfeed, how to survive… It’s a big shift.
What helped us? Taking a minute to notice each other. Saying “thank you” even when they’re helping with something that is expected. Thinking about what the other needs before they even need it. A coffee run in the middle of the day.
It’s the things you don’t think about until it’s behind you — so here’s my soap box, TED talk, ramble — prioritize your marriage even through the chaos and transitions. It matters. 🤍
Oh and have your newborn photographed. But y’all know that. 😉
