If you wondered where I've gone, I've been in my office editing lots and lots and lots of photos. This is a dance showcase where we took over 8,000 photos... I only have a few dances left!

I can do it!

I'm looking forward to popping my head out of my cave in the next day or so, before I come back down and edit 3 more events that I still need to edit. Thankfully those were not nearly as photo intensive! Then I'm ready for a little summer R&R...and a little TLC for my home!

I'm trying to catch up on my editing from being sick...I mean who allowed illness in the middle of a busy season anyways?!?

A few weeks ago my daughter and I attended a performance of Anastasia. It was SO AMAZING, that I called the director and asked if I could come photograph it. She said yes!! I prefer when I can move around the theater to get shots from near the stage, as it allows more creative shots, but in this case I was only able to get shots from the back of the theater. I still love them! I mean, when so many scenes are visually stunning, they make my job really fun! I can't wait to see all the future shows from Valley Troubadours Drama. Everything from the vocals and choreo, to the set design and costumes was absolutely magnificent!! Well done to everyone involved!

The busy season continues! You'll catch me in this video, trying to capture these spectacular dances, while the videographers did the same. We did a bit of our own dance! I can't wait to start editing these, and to capture a whole bunch more on Sunday!

It's show weekend here in our home, and capturing the Behind the Scenes photos of these amazing kids during their 8 weeks of rehearsal is one of my greatest joys as a photographer!

Last night I got the chance to photograph Addams Family at Germantown Performing Arts Center, Wisconsin. This show is gorgeous...the costumes and lighting are so fun! And it was matched in beauty by the performance. They had a full pit orchestra, and they sounded great! I took SO many pictures (and that means I have to edit SO many pictures! Doh!)

Here's a few to show you you should go check it out! They have shows Fri and Sat, May 1 and 2 at 7 pm, and Sun, May 3 at 2 pm.

Photographers often have busy seasons...and mine just started! I kicked it off with a beautiful run of Mamma Mia at Forte Theatre Company, where I'm House Manager. We had big crowds, which is amazing, and I loved how many people came out of the theater dancing! We even had a tornado warning in the middle of our Friday night show and had to safely shelter for 45 minutes. Thankfully we were all safe, and guests STILL said how great an evening they had!

For the first time, they also had an ASL performance, which was really cool to watch. ASL is always beautiful, but they had two interpreters, and their interactions were SO fun to capture.

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is being able to catch the fleeting and spontaneous moments that make life so sweet!

You may know that I rarely go to events, at least ones where I know the company leaders or event hosts, without my camera in tow. No, it’s not so I can sneak illegal photos at theater events...it’s for moments like this!! I was house manager last weekend when I caught a glimpse of this young patron dancing in the aisles at the end of Mama Mia. I'm not a runner, but I sprinted to get my camera, switch on the long lens, and said a little prayer her mom wouldn't make her sit down while I was doing so. I got back in time to catch this! She was totally in the moment and just enjoying it! Tricky lighting and dancing subjects didn't keep me from trying to capture it, and I'm happy with the results. I hope her mama sees this!

Last weekend I found out that Patria Dance Company was going to be part of the worship team for the Good Friday service at my church, and I decided I had to go. Why? Well, because everything they do is so powerful. I can't dance, but it has become a great joy to capture them as they do it so beautifully! So I reasoned the worship team PLUS Patria??? I couldn't not go (and I couldn't not take my camera!). And I'm so glad I did. If I'm being honest, I don't usually love Good Friday services because, frankly...they are hard. What is remembered that day is dark. And sometimes sitting with Jesus and remembering it quiety is all I can do. But I am sure grateful to these artists, dancers and musicians, who were willing to go deep to prepare a setting and pieces that showcased the hard, BUT ALSO...showcased that that isn't the end of the story! Spring Creek did a powerful job of turning the dark into hope...which is, of course, the point!! So THANK YOU to each person who helped do that!

My friends, art (visual and performance-based) is a POWERFUL storyteller, and we aren't using it enough to tell the most important stories on earth.

I've been kind of quiet on social media lately (sorry!), but it's not because I haven't been busy! Quite the opposite in fact! I'm going to try to catch up on a few projects and post about them. I LOVE capturing theater performances, and that includes capturing the moments as kids begin their theater journeys! These kids at Character Kids put on a great presentation of Aristocats Jr. Congratulations to all the young thespians!

I overheard a sweet moment, when a young girl, probably no more than 10 years old, was crying in the bathroom because she loved her experience so much that she didn't want it to be over. She lamented "I'm never going to see these friends again! (sob, sob)". (She had 2 friends comforting her, so I knew she was in good hands!) Luckily I've got the experience to know she very likely WILL see these friends again, because when you discover your love of theater and, more importantly, love of your theater community, you can't not participate in it! ❤️

If your theater company isn't getting professional photos of your shows (or dress rehearsals), now is a great time to contact me and get that booked! I still have a few open spots for the spring theater season! It's not only great for your marketing, but parents really appreciate it, so they can just sit back and ENJOY their child being on stage!

I don't know about you, but I'm dreaming about warmer weather...and that makes me excited to get outside to photograph all kinds of things! I'm thinking of hosting a few "mini sessions" this spring, summer and fall. It would be a chance for you to book a short photo session, at a place I have pre-picked, and get a handful of updated photos for a lower cost than a full session. I'd love to hear what places you'd like to see as the backdrops!
