Getting hitched in 2025? Need senior pictures? That Guy with a Camera is here to photograph your wedding or student on the cheap.

Here’s the deal. I love to photograph people. I love to photograph events. I’m an artist with an MFA with a brain desperate to do creative things at all hours. Last year I was fired from my miserable web marketing job and I am doing everything in my power to avoid returning back to that affected, miserable, indescribably soulless industry.

The challenge then is how can I use my talents as a photographer to do things like “buy food for my children” and “live in a house”? Offering your services as a photographer below market rate is tricky because in the iphone era we all devalue photographs, and it’s hard for anyone who isn’t a photographer to appreciate the astronomical costs associated with photo equipment (cameras, lenses, editing software, file hosting, web hosting costs, etc). And at this point we haven’t even begun to talk about the exhausting effort of editing 3,000 RAW photographs! You sort of just have to settle on “Hey, this s**t is expensive so deal with it and pay up.” But then as the costs go up, the expectation is that you should get “more photos” because we’re not really talking about how we value a piece of art, but just what we get in exchange for our money and it’s hard to explain that “you are paying me for my expertise and my excellent eye.”

Ok, so what’s the point? I have a bit of a philosophy that nobody needs 120 GB of 8,000 high resolution photographs of their wedding day they will never look at. I think there’s a sweet spot there for clients who appreciate working with a photographer who is an artist first, and is sensitive to the fact that any amount of money is a lot of money when it comes to planning for a wedding.

Welp I tried! I took these using a homemade solar filter on a 150-600mm lens shot in APS-C mode. Unfortunately we were not in the path of totality so, you know, it's a crescent sun which is kinda cool? I'll be ready to try again in 20 years.

Had a great time shooting the 2022 team photos for the Milwaukee Power! We did some shots in front of a black backdrop and some out on the ice. This was my first photo shoot for a sports team so there are 1,000 things I'll do differently next time but I still love the photos we got. Thanks
