Hiking to Barred Island Preserve, a Tidal Island

Accessible only at low tide, Barred Island off the coast of Maine near Aragosta at Goose Cove is a beautiful island perfect for swimming, shelling, exploring, and lounging on the massive rocks beneath the invigorating New England summer sun. During my time at Aragosta, I hiked to the island at low tide and explored the forested paths beyond. It was one of the most memorable and enjoyable hikes I’ve done in New England, which is impressive considering how many places I’ve gone hiking! Barred Island Elevation Gain: 200 feet…...

Juniper Cottage, Aragosta at Goose Cove

Staying in Juniper Cottage, one of Aragosta’s largest cottages, was a dream come true. Boasting two spacious bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, bathroom (of course), and a sprawling deck overlooking the ocean and forest, I was in heaven. Did I mention this cottage has two cozy fireplaces? Sleeping up to five people, it’s the perfect spot for a girl’s trip, anniversary, elopement, romantic getaway, and everything in between. Here’s why I loved Juniper Cottage within Aragosta at Goose Cove. Aragosta at Goose Cove Location: Deer Isle, MaineAddress: 300 Goose Cove Rd…...

The Charming Village of Homnøy

Near the southern tip of the Lofoten Islands in Northern Norway’s Arctic Circle, the charming village of Homnøy may occupy a small island, but its beautiful buildings have captured the hearts of people all over the world. Rorbuer, or fishing cabins, are the iconic red buildings that dot the island and surrounding Lofoten. Some are open to the public as rentals (like this one over the water or this one), but most are lodging for the fisherwomen and fishermen who work the waters around Lofoten. We stopped here as part of our road trip through Lofoten, and it was easy to see why it’s become such a draw in the area....

Sunset Dinner in Aragosta’s Greenhouse

Aragosta sits along the shore of Goose Cove on Deer Isle, more a destination than simply a place. By that, I mean that from the moment I pulled into the driveway, I knew I'd want to return again and again. A thing of simple, laid-back beauty, Aragosta sprawls across more than 20 acres of boreal forest along the ocean, and there’s simply too much to see, do, and enjoy for a single visit or a single meal to suffice. That's why locals and out-of-towners alike return time and time again to eat, sip, and rest in the culinary haven Chef Devin Finigan has created that rivals the best fine dining any major city has to offer....

Beach Rose Eyelet Dress

Eyelet is one of my favorite fabric details, alongside scallops. Better if a dress has both. I wore this beach rose eyelet dress to dinner at Aragosta on Deer Isle, Maine, and blended right in with the beach roses in full bloom mere steps away along the shore. Not only is it comfortable, 100% cotton, breezy, and effortlessly put together-- it garnered plenty of compliments from my dining companions. That makes it a winner in my book. Celebrating Chef Devin Finigan’s New Coastal Cookbook, A Kitchen on Goose Cove

Celebrating Chef Devin Finigan’s new coastal cookbook, A Kitchen on Goose Cove, has been one of the highlights of my 2026. Her restaurant and associated cottages, suites, and greenhouses comprise 21 acres of Aragosta (Italian for lobster) that rest along one of Downeast Maine’s most breathtaking stretches of beachfront-- Goose Cove. A sanctuary of natural beauty and New England elegance created by the internationally renowned chef, adventurer, and hostess extraordinaire, Devin Finigan, Aragosta offers delectable, sustainable fine dining & exceedingly charming accommodations. Chef Finigan’s first cookbook was a labor of love created over three years, highlighting her culinary, hospitality, and sustainability journey, which began long before the book was conceived....

Where to Find Puffins Near Bar Harbor

Seeing wildlife, undisturbed and unexpectedly, is one of life’s true pleasures. It’s long been a dream of mine to see puffins in the wild. Their darling grey, yellow, and orange-striped beaks make them one of the most recognizable birds in the entire world. Plus, they’re freaking adorable! After visiting northern Scotland, Norway’s Arctic Circle, and the coast of Maine multiple times during the Puffin breeding season, we still hadn’t seen any in areas where they once nested, due to human-driven environmental destruction. For instance, puffins were once common on the Isle of Skye, but trawling along the coast for eels and other small fish they like to eat meant there was no longer enough food for them, so they fled elsewhere....

Lofoten Lambs

The end of May means three things in Lofoten: the Midnight Sun is here to stay (for a while), it’s finally warm enough to go outside, and there are plenty of newborn lambs to admire from afar (with my long-range lens). We encountered these little cuties while hiking, and, as always, we didn’t approach, bait, or otherwise interfere with them. As such, I think these darlings were extra happy to be photographed. Remember: Never approach, startle, or attempt to lure wildlife when photographing them. The beauty is in the spontaneity! Explore more of my adventures in Lofoten, Norway, and Europe. Midnight Sun Over the Arctic Circle

During our week in Lofoten, Norway, which is inside the Arctic Circle, we experienced life beneath the Midnight Sun. It’s true that the sun never actually sets. It gave us a beautiful sunset, but the sun only bounced right back above the horizon. Thankfully, our hotel had a fantastic blackout curtain system. The ever-present light made hiking at night possible, which was how we ended up climbing Festvågtind between 10:30 pm and 2 am, something that would’ve been dangerous and impossible any other time of year. Here’s a glimpse of the Midnight Sun over the Arctic Circle, something humanity has revered in this region for millennia....
