To say I’m frustrated doesn’t even begin to cover it.

2 weeks ago, the night before my last competition, I was woken up with my left ankle screaming. Not even sure what caused it. Probably some version of old guy s**t, like the sheets were too tight or something. I still went to the competition, broke some records and got the overall masters.

The next day it hurt to put weight on it. Fast forward a little more than a week, ankle still hurts, but I pushed through and did a squat workout followed by a bench workout the next day. My ankle was sore, but manageable.

The next day, last Thursday, I could barely put weight on it. Finally pulled my old crutches out and I’ve been using them ever since. Went to urgent care on Friday. Pretty much a waste of time, but they did rule out a fracture and infection. I have an appointment with an orthopedic next Thursday.

The big takeaway is this. As we get older (and this may apply to the younger folks as well) we have to be more patient. Give our bodies a chance to heal. I have very definite goals for my next competition in Feb to hit a combined total of 1000. I can feel days, turning into weeks, slipping away.

I guess the good thing is that if it’s harder to rest and recover than it is to hit the gym and push your body to new heights, you are mentally prepared to do anything.
