Meet my newest bird the Plumbeous Vireo, bird number 345 on my life list! I got him while doing a hike in Utah with my family. “You do not have to be bright or conspicuous to have a presence. Keep moving, keep searching, and keep singing through the gray.”

The American Avocet is one of North America’s most elegant shorebirds. Its long, upturned bill is specially designed to sweep through shallow water in search of tiny aquatic insects and crustaceans. In flight, those bold black-and-white wings and warm cinnamon head make it unforgettable.

Catching this bird banking toward the camera for just a split second was one of those moments that reminds me why I always have a camera in my hands ❤️📷

Today feels like the right day to finally share something I’ve kept close for a long time.

For years, this hidden stretch of Montana timber has been my quiet escape. It’s where I’ve watched owls appear without a sound, crossed paths with incredible wildlife, and experienced countless wild moments through my lens.

On my birthday, I’m finally opening the door.

Welcome to The Secret Timber Collection.

This collection is just the beginning. I’ll continue adding to it as the seasons change and new moments unfold. My hope is that one day these photographs will become a book that tells the story of this extraordinary forest.

These photographs are more than images to me. They’re memories, patience, and a little piece of a place that has shaped me as a photographer.

Meet the Long-billed Dowitcher, often nicknamed the “sewing machine” of the wetlands. 🪡💧

With its extra-long bill, this shorebird probes deep into the mud at lightning speed, searching for insects, worms, and tiny crustaceans. If you ever see one feeding, you’ll understand exactly how it earned that nickname!

Wait… are those eyes on the back of its head? 👀

Those two dark spots on the back of a Northern Pygmy Owl’s head aren’t eyes at all. They’re called false eyes, or ocelli. Scientists believe they help confuse predators by making the owl appear to be watching in every direction, even when it’s looking away.

Then… it turns around. 😄

Nature has some pretty incredible tricks.
