Some things are worth staying up late for…

The cloud cover made it tough to get a clear shot and dulled the moon’s reddish hue, but I managed to find a few breaks of clear sky that made it possible to photograph the Sturgeon Moon at the peak of the lunar eclipse early Friday morning.

Next up…the workday (and a BIG cup of coffee) awaits…😴🫩🥱☕️☕️☕️

“When You Wish Upon a (Shooting) Star”

…that moment when the stars align (both literally AND figuratively speaking) so you can capture a Milky Way composition you’ve been chasing for years…😌❤️📸

The shooting star at the top of the frame was the icing on the proverbial cake…💫

This image was taken at Marshall Point Light, which got some brief screen time in the movie “Forrest Gump” during Forrest’s famous cross-country running sequence.

Special thanks to Rick Berk | Maine and Del Higgins for the assistance with planning, composing and completing what’s been my most challenging post-processing edit, to date. It was a lot of work, but a ton of fun, from start to finish. 👍

I was also pleasantly surprised to meet “Mr. Night Sky” himself, Stephen Beckwith, for the first time and it was wonderful chatting with him as he also provided some valuable photography advice and guidance during our time together under the stars.

Always grateful to be part of such an amazing photo family, who continue to help me raise my game at every opportunity.

Please check out Rick, Stephen and Del’s IG galleries to see some amazing work! Thanks, guys! ❤️📸

“Tangerine Dream”

Thanks to an abundance of smoke from the wildfires in Canada, the sun rose this morning looking more like an orange, than the blazing ball of energy that is our nearby star. 🍊☀️

Naturally, I had to snap a photo. iPhone had to fill in for the “big boy” camera…📸

“Nature’s Fireworks” ⛈️⚡️

I made this image during a thunderstorm last month, and happened to be in the right place, at the right time.

Fortunately, the storm was moving away and in a northeasterly direction, which miraculously resulted in no rain and only a slight breeze at my vantage point.

I don’t use an infrared lightning trigger to detect upcoming bolts. Just a series of random, 6-second shots, hoping I capture something. This frame was a close second to a previous shot I posted of a lightning burst directly over Fort Gorges that same night.

I love wild weather. Always have. But as a reminder, I make every effort to photograph it safely when the conditions are right.

And on that night, things worked out perfectly. 👌

“I’m pretty tired. I think I’ll go home now…” - Forrest Gump

That’s pretty much what I said to myself as Friday night eased into early Saturday morning during an impromptu trip to chase the Milky Way at Marshall Point Light (which was featured during Forrest’s famous running montage in “Forrest Gump”).

It was wonderfully peaceful and awe-inspiring, all at once. Looking forward to a return trip, for sure! 📸
