Haven’t posted for sometime now and didn’t really want to share here much 🤷‍♀️ I’ve been sharing more on threads and LinkedIn lately and it’s been good! New work coming soon, though.
Been a photographer officially for a decade now and have had my own share of ups and downs. I e pretty much shot everything from portraits to headshots to families and weddings and products to brands and food/drinks including hotel spaces!
My love for photography goes deeper than just sticking to one lane. I do love photographing people, their stories and food of late much more and its 5ish years since I made the shift to pursue commercial/editorial work.
For those that didn’t know - I started my career as an Electrical Engineer, went to Penn state for studying lighting design & worked full time for 15 years before I pivoted.
Photography started as a hobby while I had two kids & slowly grew into something bigger and deeper and that made me pursue it further to make a living of it. In the highs and lows of running a business, I lost my love for the art I craved back in the day, for dropping my kids at school and then running to the closest trail simply to photograph nature for myself. Not for print sales or for marketing anything. Somewhere along the way, that deep love started to disappear as I juggled between being a Mom, feeling like an outsider in the photo industry still & knocking doors alone, and balancing my love for creating work that pays well versus work that’s for myself, that’s fully in a different wholesome way.
I just heard on this morning briefly about how pursuing art helps people live longer by reducing stress and is a form of therapy - and it reminded me that what I do, what artists do is important. As I age I see myself feeling the push to pursue projects & align myself with brand work that means something- for the greater good, that want to make a positive impact.
As I’m in my 11th year as a photographer- I thank everyone who’s helped me in this journey, supported a shy introverted brown woman, a mom who believes in anything is possible when you pour your heart into it.
