Introducing “Visual stories by Jyotsna”. “

Visual stories by Jyotsna” is a freelance visual studio (offering both photo storytelling and video) that goes beyond just the image. We strive to document not just your Portraits, but also your creative & brand narratives, the culture and ethos of what you or your personal brand represent along with highlighting local artisan stories. I’m particularly drawn to documenting stories of Chefs, farmers, dancers and performers, Artists, Makers & women/Kids building something they are passionate about - those creating work that highlight culture, heritage, identity and especially promoting sustainable practices (studying sustainability was part of my grad school!)

Since I was a kid my dream was to travel with a camera in my hand, observe the world around me, the light, the sounds of a busy street, the vibrant colors, people just doing their own thing & all the stories that can be weaved into a single frame. Photography especially human centered stories & the reminder that we are just a tiny part of this vast world always spoke to me.

Mexico City stole my heart. The colors, culture, food & people + the beautiful architecture & mural walls all were so beautiful and welcoming! Reminded me of India!

Work created for in 2025 that I’m only now getting around to sharing. Some of these were selects and some edits.

Feeling soo inspired after attending the few days ago. I cannot wait to connect with so many brands I met at the trade show and help them with marketing visuals for this year. I’m particularly excited to connect with new brands launching, south Asian brands (going back to my roots), & ofcourse more plant based & brands that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Hey friends 👋 I’m still here but taking the last month off IG was fantastic for me. Here’s some photos from my travels to

I’m excited about the new year which feels like new opportunities and I’m really really hoping to make more in person connections this year and build community.

I do have lots of new followers, so here’s a quick intro.

1. My name is Jyotsna but I go by Jyo since forever. I used to live in Sacramento for over a decade and recently moved to San Diego (5 months ago).
2. I was an Engineer previously for 15 yrs (building design) and quit my job to go full time in photography 2020.
3. I have been a photographer forever now (since childhood days) but professionally since a decade now (work 10th anniversary is this year April).
4. I photograph lifestyle brands/products including people, travel and food! Help me connect with more business owners/brands :) 🙏
5. I speak 3 languages fluently, 1 can understand and just enrolled to study Spanish in CC for spring. 👏 lifelong learner!
6. I love dancing, and have been dancing at my school performances since childhood but have been finding that joy again since past few years!
7. I hate silence in a room or awkward pauses in conversations and will keep chatting to keep the convo going 😬
8. I lived in 4 countries till now and wish I traveled and lived in more places back in the day.
9. San Diego is an amazing place to live in and incredibly beautiful! My only regret is we wish we moved here years ago!!

Something red - across multiple genres. I photograph people, lifestyle & food/hospitality and don’t see myself ever niching down. In my opinion if you are able to maintain your style & produce work/convey your story across multiple genres - that’s a win! Would love to hear your thoughts!
