The beast 🔥

First visit ever to elk country did NOT disappoint. Definitely the greatest way to kick off our honeymoon! We spent hours upon hours driving, hiking, and listening to elk with no luck. Finally, right around time for the sun to set, we headed back to a spot and waited about 45 minutes before we heard the bugling of this majestic handsome man. I never quite understood how large they were until we saw their size compared to the white-tails snacking a bit behind them. They are massive! Definitely more pics to come 🦌 (posted RAW so may look lower quality because of FB compression 🫠)

My first time seeing a Lincoln's sparrow! Being quite the secretive bird, they spend most of their time under a thick brush towards the ground of heavily wooded marshes. I'm glad I zoomed in on this one because from a distance I did mistake it for another song sparrow!
My favorite lake I like to photograph at is having the dam rebuilt, which means the whole lake has been drained for almost a year now while the construction is going on. But, this has allowed an insane amount of plant life to grow in the areas where there used to be water. This has created an abundance of land for certain birds to thrive and nest in, including many types of sparrows (like this one) that I typically wouldn't be able to see under normal circumstances!
A big identifying trait of the Lincolns sparrows are the washed yellow area on their chest!

Female hooded merganser😍I very rarely have chances to photograph these guys as close as this one, they're expert divers who spend most of their time fishing underwater and can be hard to keep track of.

My favorite big man in all his glory. I've been looking for him for a few weeks since he was my favorite buck to watch last year. It took a little while, but he showed up in all his glory yesterday!
