Growing up, I thought independence meant running as fast as I could. Turns out, falling on my face, making a million questionable choices, and figuring life out the hard way was just building the character I needed to survive.
The ultimate plot twist of getting older? Realizing how much you actually miss your parents, how grateful you are for the foundation they gave you, and how much fun it is when you can finally laugh together about all the chaos it took to get here.
And now, watching my own adult kids navigate the world is the best part of all. Sure, that parent reflex never truly turns off you still worry about them just like you did when they were small but getting to watch them grow into hilarious, resilient adults you genuinely love hanging out with is unmatched.
Making mistakes along the way isn’t bad it’s how we build character, learn survival, and end up with the best friendships in life. Wouldn’t trade any of them (or the lessons) for the world.
