It def feels wrong to brag on myself, but having my image selected for the cover of one of my favorite magazines is really an amazing feeling. Customer service is not for the weak. To me, being an artist is even harder because you are taking it one step further and pouring your heart and soul into your craft and hope people value it enough to come back. Its been 38 years of figuring out who I am as a person and artist. From forcing everyone I was close to participate in photo shoots when I was like 13 going through the hardest most devastating years of my life, to college, starting this business not knowing what the heck I was doing, and plenty of life experiences in between. I feel like the most important thing (and many times difficult) I have learned was not the business side, or the editing side, or how to make a website, or how to manage my time. It is to choose the clients who make you feel inspired. The ones you instantly vibe with. The ones who become friends and even family. And as long as you have that, the rest falls into place. Some of my greatest moments have been behind the lens. I have had the privilege of watching some of you marry the love of your life, I knew many of your baby's genders before you. I have been the first person to see your baby, I watched you sob as we chaotically trudge through the cake smash session, and told you it was going to be okay while I capture your graduating senior's accomplishments. I have cried with you knowing this would be a loved ones last session. I have fallen in love with clients and their families only to learn that an image from their wedding day, just a year prior, would end up being their obituary photo. I have been so inspired by your birth stories and strength through loss that I became a NILMDTS volunteer photographer. We have held fundraisers to raise money for family and friends going through absolute hell. We have been able to support our kids schools and provide family's who otherwise couldnt afford it with beautiful pictures of their kids.
It has been one absolutely crazy year. We are all just trying to survive this economy. We have said over and over and over again how thankful we are to still be able to do this and to have a full schedule. I have spent every single day of my life since I was a teenager working towards this little big dream. So today, I will take this win but for you guys. Please know that if you have ever booked a shoot, referred me to someone else, wrote a review, or come back year after year.. it's not just about the money. Or being published. You are helping grow this crazy dream of mine of providing my people with images that bring them back to the best moments that life has to offer. You are helping support a family business with a whole lot of kids and experiences that we didn't have. You all have helped me grow, learn, heal, and repeat for like 20some years now. For that, we will be forever grateful
