This past weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding, and as I was traveling to get to the wedding I had a flood of emotions come back that I hadn't thought about for several years. So today I am going to tell you my story and what got me behind the lense instead of infront of it. Today would be my grandmothers 90th birthday if she was still with us so today seems fitting to tell you a little about why I am a photographer.
Let me start off by saying the bride I had the pleasure of photographing is my oldest Aunt, and I got to think about how many weddings as a child and even into my teenage years and then into adulthood that I had attended, each of those weddings had one thing in common, each of them I had a camera and film atached to my hand, and each of them I would take the pictures that the photographer they had hired didnt, those candid shots of you laughing throughout your reception, your kids sitting down in their dress and making a silly face, your mom crying as she saw you kiss your spouse for the first time... The point being is that I took thousands upon thousands of pictures growing up and I never once knew what that was going to mean for me other than the fact that I loved taking them.
The aunt who got married this weekend has 2 kids who both got married and guess who had a camera attached to them the whole time, yeah it was me.
But I almost gave up photography when I felt that it was forced onto me because my dream was to be a baker not a photographer. But I went to college anyway for digital photography that was a whole different ball field with me because for so many years I had been using film. But several years after finishing up college I actually found my way back to a camera again, and I found my passion again.
Dreams aren't always going to come true right then and there, and sometimes you have to lose focus of what you really love for it to come back and be something that you couldn't see yourself without. I now take pictures of weddings, concerts, and even some other fun stuff and it has became my happy place.
So to my Aunt and her new husband, Congratulations on your wedding and for many happy years to come. I cannot wait to finish up editing your pictures and seeing your day all over again, from the walk down the isle to your first dance.
