I believe that is what feeds my passion for photography. I’m quite sure that is what compelled me to take much of my savings from years of selling lemonade and cookies in front of my apartment building in Manhattan, and at the age of 12, purchase my first camera. I still own that 35mm camera I bought when I was a kid. I shot with it for 20 years and have grown to consider a camera to be an extensi

on of my very being. I’ve captured the pure and innocent joy of my three children… unforgettable travels around the world… the simple beauty of nature… memories that will last a lifetime. I’ve purchased other cameras since then and now shoot digitally. I am constantly inspired to shoot in the relentless pursuit of the perfect picture. A child’s smile… true love shared by a bride and groom on their wedding day… a mother’s prideful glance at her son… a father glowing at seeing his family grow before his very eyes – these are the moments worth capturing. After photographing a relative’s bat mitzvah, I received such praise and encouragement, that I came to the realization it was time to share my passion and life long love of photography with others. Chad David Kraus Photography was born! Since that party, I’ve professionally photographed weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, sweet sixteens, communion parties, family and baby portraits, professional headshots, and many other special events all over the tri-state area. I pride myself on my candid photography taken in a photo journalistic style. Every photo can tell a story and I look to capture the truth of a given moment and believe it shines through in my work. For my portrait work, I enjoy the use of natural light and locations that have a personal attraction or meaning for my clients. It is for this reason that I do not use a studio. I live in the town of Pleasantville, NY in Westchester County and work all over the tri-state area. The love and support of my wife and three children give me my true inspiration. For that I am eternally grateful.

If you’d like to see the full video of Glen Hansard singing “Falling Slowly” with my daughter Maggie - here you go! For some reason it was cut short in my previous post.
And here again are my words of love and tribute to Glen from that post:
Glen was a great singer and songwriter. He was an even greater human. And I can tell you all that truth because I experienced his love and care and kindness first hand. Glen had my daughter and me backstage - just 4 months into her incredibly difficult leukemia treatment in March, 2025.
The hug he gave her was all encompassing and genuine. The gift he gave of singing a duet of “Falling Slowly” with her will never be forgotten. I still get chills as they sang the lyrics “Well, you have suffered enough / And warred with yourself / It’s time that you won”.
Maggie and I then saw Glen perform what would be his final performance in NYC at Bowery Ballroom on 4.9.26. Rachel Zegler was his special guest on stage to sing “Falling Slowly”. It was gorgeous - and yet for me - it will never come close to as beautiful as Maggie singing it with him. And then - after a 3 hour concert - he once again came out to see Maggie who was in a wheelchair and unable to make it upstairs to backstage.
There have been an unbelievable amount of tributes to Glen all over social media today. And it so truly speaks to how many lives he touched over the years. He gave of himself to give others joy and hope.
I didn’t think I could sob over the passing of someone I only ever met twice. But I have to tell you - I felt an overwhelming sense of humanity emanating from this man in about 15 total minutes personally shared with him. The heart that he had was unbelievable. The ability he had to give 100% of himself was something for all of us to strive towards. He leaves behind a whole lotta love that does not vanish. It carries on and out into this world. I leave you with a quote from Glen:
“I choose to believe that there is good in people and that everything is a lesson. Our place on earth is to go deeper, to somehow get wiser. To have spirit.”

Happy 19th Birthday to my sweet and kindhearted Maggie .maggie711. You surely have every right to be angry and bitter for what you’ve been dealt these last 20 months - and yet - even after all the pain and sadness and despair and disappointment, you manage to come back to find the love and joy and beauty of this life and this world.
Here’s to many, many, many, many more orbits around the sun for you. And a return to full health in the very near future in the grand scheme of life.
You’ve got so many people rooting for you. Every single day.

I had the honor of photographing the wonderful - the original Roger in both the Broadway and West End productions of Rent - at right here in my little village of Pleasantville. Arc Stages has pulled off a coup in securing Adam as the director of the fantastic musical “The Last Five Years” for a run this Fall. Simply amazing!!! Casting TBA. Stay tuned!!! Gonna be fabulous!
