Take your own fresh 48 photos, they said. It'll be fun, they said. Actually, no one said that except my own stubborn self. Taking my own photos was painful, but beautiful. Emotional. My battered body, tired and aching from a c-section couldn't leave those moments undocumented. My beautiful boy, my beautiful family. Complete. I look forward to helping your family document your precious memories soon. But for now, I'm deeply enjoying these moments with mine.

There is nothing like documenting a couple deeply in love on their special day. There is such an overwhelming sense of happiness and promise for the future. You want to look back at your wedding and see the joy from that day in your images.... and I can still feel this couple's joy in looking back almost a year later in seeing their smiles! They were absolutely the sweetest, with such a beautiful connection. It was a privilege to be there to capture their moment at in White Plains.

I never intended to take a long social media break, but sometimes life has other plans. The holiday photo season was busy, and it was wonderful to see returning clients and meet so many new ones. I threw myself into putting out great results for my clients instead of updating my social media feeds. But right before the holidays, everything came to a grinding hault. I've had an autoimmune disease since I was a teenager, and usually, it is managed pretty well. Unfortunately, I recently had major setbacks, landed in the hospital, and have been recovering far slower than expected. I'd been growing sicker throughout the fall, but genuinely thought I'd be able to power through, not realizing quite how sick I really was. Thankfully, I've been making larger gains recently and am back to booking clients, but illness made my holiday season hard. Nonetheless, I made sure my kids felt the magic of the season. So here is a photodump of a little bit of holidays, because I so infrequently share my life, despite you all sharing yours with me! The last two pictures are a bit of a bonus that you'll almost never see on my feed; many of you know I'm also a neuroscientist, so as proof, here I am with a brain. It is a rare cell phone picture, since as a photographer, I pride myself on working with sophisticated tech... but it was an impromptu moment. The other is a picture of me with my family; the first time in forever, we've done actually family photos. Again, you share so much of your life... so this is a bit of my own. was nice enough to help with the camera work, then let me edit the results. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such an awesome fellow photographer!
Here's to an amazing 2025, and thank you all for making the prior year so amazing!

When your clients' child searches the entire session for fairies, what else can you do but give her a little fairy magic (zoom in to see what I'm talking about... fairies are tiny, you know)? Being a family photographer isn't just knowing how to work a camera or edit. It is about taking seriously the business of working with families... especially kids. If your photographer has the expectation that your children act like little adults, find a new one!
I'm a former educator. I'm a cognitive developmental specialist who happens to love having a second job that allows me to be creative and work one on one with families instead of in a laboratory setting. And I'm a mom of two little kids who aren't sitting still for photos, so I'm not expecting yours to, either!

Happy Halloween! I'm back on socials after taking some time away to enjoy the summer, only to return to getting sick just as school started, losing our beloved dog, and then straight into the busy season. It has been a bittersweet few months, but it has meant a lot of extra self care. Sometimes that means being off socials for a bit. I'm grateful that today I'll be able to spend the day celebrating with my family... then straight back to photo editing and photo sessions.
How are you celebrating Halloween?

It has been a tough few months, but with the fall and holiday season upon us, I wanted to post an update. We've had many highs and lows in my family as of late, but the biggest low has no doubt been the loss of our beautiful girl, Basil. Basil was *my* first dog. Sure, I'd had family dogs. My husband had a dog when we got together. But Basil was the first pup that was just mine. We adopted her at about 8 weeks old, and she was an absolute handful from the moment we left the shelter until the day she left us forever. Think Marley, but with the brains of Einstein and sometimes the anxiety of a Yorkie who drinks too much coffee. Basil gave us endless stories, from letting herself out of my husband's family's cottage in Maine to come find us on the beach after we opted to leave her at home that one time, to stealing napkins from under plates of steak (instead of the steal itself).... she was forever a character. Basil was our baby before we had human kids and remained our fur kid after. She was smart, sassy, silly, loving, and fond of adventures of any kind. She had been sick since August, and we had an appointment with a specialist set for the 30th of September. But just weeks shy of that visit, she crashed. She left us in the early morning hours of September 19th. We've been left shattered. It is still gut-wrenching to acknowledge she is gone. The mornings, nights, and days when I work from home and everyone else is out at school or work are the hardest. And coming home. And meals. And getting ready. Actually, it is all hard. She was always right there, ready to trip me, or steal my food, or knock me over, or insist on a pat (especially in the middle of editing photos. I'd give anything to have her back to give me even more grief. We never get enough time with our fur babies. Give yours a hug. Include them in your family photos. Take them on adventures. Let them have an extra treat. You'll never regret what you included them in once they are gone... only the moments missed.
