Sometimes the reason for family photos isn’t a milestone—it’s a reminder of what matters most.

When this family reached out, there wasn’t a birthday, anniversary, or holiday on the calendar. There was simply a desire to document this season of life together before an upcoming chapter of change.

As we wandered through the hills of Glen Ellen, what stood out wasn’t the beautiful light or scenery. It was the way this family loved each other. The hugs that lingered a little longer. The laughter that came easily. The comfort of simply being together.

We often tell ourselves we’ll schedule family photos someday.

When life slows down.
When work gets less busy.
When the kids are older.
When we lose the extra weight.
When everything feels easier.

But life has a way of reminding us that today matters too.

Photographs become more meaningful when they capture not only what we looked like, but who we were to one another during a particular season of life.

There doesn’t need to be a perfect reason to schedule family photos.

Being together is reason enough.

The biggest regret I hear from parents isn’t that they didn’t take enough photos.

It’s that they waited too long to be in them.

So many parents spend years behind the camera. They’re documenting birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everyday moments—but somehow never make it into the frame themselves.

Then one day they look back and realize there are very few photographs showing the love, connection, and relationship they shared with their children.

Your kids don’t care if you’ve lost the extra weight.
They don’t care if your hair was perfect.
They don’t care whether your outfit was trendy.
What they’ll care about someday is seeing you there.
Holding them.
Laughing with them.
Showing up in their memories.

The truth is, there will probably never be a perfect time.
But years from now, you’ll never regret having photographs of the people you love most.
Don’t wait for someday.

Your family is worth documenting exactly as you are, right now.

If you’ve ever worried your kids won’t cooperate for family photos, you’re exactly the kind of family I love photographing.

Hi, I’m Diana.

For years, I’ve been photographing families, maternity sessions, and newborns throughout Sonoma County and the Bay Area. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:

The families who tell me they’re nervous beforehand almost always tell me afterward, “That was so much easier than I expected.”

Here’s a secret: I don’t expect your children to sit still.
I don’t expect anyone to know how to pose.
I don’t expect toddlers to smile on command.
And I definitely don’t expect perfection.

My job isn’t to force moments. It’s to create space for them to happen naturally.
The laughter between siblings.
The way your child reaches for your hand.
The hugs, snuggles, and little moments that make your family yours.

Behind every gallery is a photographer making silly noises, chasing toddlers, telling terrible jokes, and occasionally sitting in the dirt to get the shot.

The best family photos happen when everyone feels comfortable enough to simply be themselves.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a session but feel nervous about how your family will do, I’d love to chat.
I promise you don’t have to be photogenic. You just have to show up.

Which family session fits your family? I’ve got three favorites in Sonoma County to match your vibe. For playful toddlers, I love candid park walks—lots of movement, laughs, and real moments. For multi‑gen families, cozy at‑home mornings capture gentle connections and quiet smiles. If you’re new parents or craving romance, golden‑hour meadow portraits give dreamy light and relaxed direction. I shoot with natural light and easy guidance so you can just be yourselves. There’s something so special about slowing down and documenting this season before everything changes. 🤍

I loved meeting this sweet couple for their maternity session at Crane Creek Regional Park in Sonoma County. They shared how much they love the slower pace of life here — the open space, quiet evenings, rolling hills, and feeling connected to nature — and honestly, that’s exactly the energy this session held from start to finish.

And of course… they brought their dog. 🐾 Which made the session even more meaningful.

I absolutely love when families include their pets in maternity and family photos. Dogs are such an important part of your story before baby arrives, and they deserve to be part of these memories too. As a photographer (and dog mom to two dogs myself), I’m always pet-friendly and happy to help incorporate them naturally into your session.

Mama also brought two outfits, which gave us such beautiful variety throughout the evening — one more casual and relaxed, and another that felt soft, elevated, and timeless for golden hour. I always encourage expecting mothers to bring multiple looks if they’d like more diversity in their gallery.

If you’re looking for a Sonoma County maternity photographer who will help you feel comfortable, guide you naturally, include your pets, and document your growing family in an authentic way, I’d love to connect. My sessions are relaxed, connection-focused, and centered around preserving this fleeting season before your baby arrives.

Welcoming a newborn is pure magic — and I’d love to help you hold onto those first, tiny moments forever. I specialize in calm, cozy newborn sessions around Santa Rosa and Sonoma County that prioritize your baby’s comfort and real connection. Expect gentle posing, plenty of breaks, and natural light that creates warm, timeless images.

I usually recommend booking within the first two weeks after birth when babies are sleepiest — it makes those curled-up poses so sweet. Bring a favorite blanket, feed just before the session, and relax — I’ll guide everything.

Ready to capture your baby’s story in a relaxed, authentic way? Let’s chat and find a time that fits your family. 💛👶

One of the biggest misconceptions about family and maternity photos is that kids need to be “perfect” for beautiful images to happen 🤍
This sweet boy felt everything during our session — happy and wild and independent one moment, stubborn and needing extra cuddles from mom the next. And honestly? That’s exactly what childhood looks like.
The best thing his parents did was let him be who he needed to be without adding pressure to perform or “smile for the camera.” They rode the wave with him, stayed calm, gave him space when he needed it, and loved on him through every emotion. That’s where the real moments happen.
As a photographer, a huge part of my job is reading those little signs. Knowing when to pivot, when to play, when to move things along, or when to simply slow down and let a child reset. Some of the most meaningful photos come from those in-between moments — the cuddles, the comfort, the connection.

One thing I always tell expecting couples before their maternity session: your photos don’t need to be overly posed to feel beautiful 🤍
Some of the most meaningful moments happen in between — walking together, laughing, fixing each other’s hair, holding onto this season before everything changes.
These two explored the hills of Novato with me during golden hour, and the entire session felt peaceful, connected, and effortless. The soft rolling hills, warm evening light, and quiet moments together made it feel less like a photoshoot and more like a memory.
If you’re planning a maternity session, choosing a location that allows movement and connection (instead of feeling stiff or crowded) can completely change how your photos feel.
