Wearing a mix of smoky blue-gray upperparts, a purple-washed chest, a white stripe down its neck, and a bright white belly, a Tricolored Heron glows from behind as the morning sun lights up his gorgeous breeding feathers!

I love this shot because I put some intentional blur & bokeh in the foreground, I love how I aligned his bill with the palm fronds, and of course how I used the light! This shot wouldn't win in most photo contests, and that doesn't matter to me, because I love the freedom to create ART, I love being unique in my style, and most of all, I love having fun out there in the field with my Nikon ! To be clear, I also enter contests, but nothing beats the adrenaline rush and visual validation while being in the moment with nature!

Autumn in Florida is a gentle transition from heavy summer humidity to crisp, comfortable air, and refreshing breezes.

I love this image because it artistically describes Florida, Old Florida, or the Real Florida, which is what I set out to create. Muted greens, bronze cypress in the background, tall palms intentionally lined up, and a slightly off center bright white Great Egret to complete the scene.

Hatchling Stack!

A pile of baby alligators stack up on top of each other all trying to get that warm spot in the sun~

Trusting Mama
Wide awake and curious about me, a days old Gator Hatchling rests on Mama's snout. I lay quiet in the muck, so quiet was I, that Mama got some shut eye. The next day, heavy rains from Hurricane Isaias flooded out this location, and all the hatchlings scattered.

In New England, we go "leaf peeping", in Florida, we go "hatchling peeping".

Autumn in Florida: A days old Gator Hatchling rests in the stillness of the shallow swamp. I love the leaves submerged under water and the reflections of the amber leaves on the water - its a quiet but vivid scene of seasonal change and stillness.

During the rain from Isaias a week or so ago, this area near a parking lot flooded and created a huge pond. We normally see Limpkins with apple snails, their primary diet, but they also eat earthworms, insects, frogs, and lizards.

I got up early looking for some foggy swampy images and caught this gator crossing under the bridge. Because it was so heavy with fog, my Nikon overcompensated the Auto White Balance, turning the entire scene misty orange.

I like it! As an artist, I am always looking for ways to do things different than I have done or seen before. I also like a minimalistic image. Gators are challenging in many ways, so any time I can get a "stand out" image, I am quite happy!

Blanketed by fog from the heat and rain, and just back from a fresh catch, a pair of Crested Caracara's share a meal as the early morning sun glistens in the background.

I am not sure what he caught, it definitely wasn't a rabbit like the day before!
