One of my favorite little perks for my newborn clients 💚

When you book a Splendor or Deluxe Newborn Session, you’ll also receive a complimentary session after baby is a little older.

Because as much as I love those tiny newborn details… there is something so fun about seeing them come back when they’re showing off a whole new personality.

Around the 6-7 month mark, they’re usually working on all kinds of new skills - sitting, smiling, grabbing their toes, giving me suspicious little side-eyes… you know, the important stuff.😆

Complimentary sessions are about 30 minutes long, include 2 images, and you’ll have access to my client closet for babies around 6-12 months.

🤍 And of course, as one of my beloved newborn families, you’ll have the option to purchase additional images, upgrade to a full Milestone Session, or reserve a Cake Smash Session at a special rate.

Because honestly? I’ve always felt like the best rates should go to the families who already trusted me with their baby’s first portraits! Not just to brand new clients I’m trying to win over. 🙂

It’s just a sweet little way to touch base before they turn one. And selfishly? I realllllyyyy love getting to see “my” babies, and their beautiful families again. 🤍

These sessions are meant to be classic, timeless portraits of your baby or little one exactly as they are right now - before they move onto the next tiny little version of themselves.

Milestone Sessions are photographed in my Oakley studio and are one of the easiest ways to update portraits without planning a full themed session.

I know, I know… we all have approximately 47,000 photos of our kids on our phones.

Same. 🙈
Plus dogs, plants, and apparently spiders if you’re me. 🤷‍♀️

But there’s something different about having this version of them photographed with purpose 💚

I started offering Milestone Sessions when I realized there was this gap between newborn photos and birthdays. Where you don’t really need a cake or theme.

You just want to remember *this* face. The stage they’re in right now, the little expressions, the chubby hands..

These are meant to be classic, timeless portraits of your baby or little one exactly as they are right now - before they move onto the next tiny little version of themselves!

And that really is the whole point. 🤍

Personal share 🤍 With one getting married next year, another just having graduated high school, the feels of it all has had me scrolling through my hard drives like a mad woman over the last few days!

These are from last year, when I took my oldest son to the studio for updated portraits.

This guy is so fashion forward...and while I'm posting this *looks down at self* I'm wearing a shirt that says "Plants Not People" and a pair of Adidas shorts I probably got from Ross 5 years ago 😅 He definitely didn't get it from his mama lol

Out of all my kids, he is the one most like me AND my bipolar opposite at the same time. 😂 I don't know any other way to explain it. It's like we share the same heart (emotions, empathy, passion...) but different minds? He likes strict routines, planning ahead, and detailed schedules - explains why all my willy-nilly plans always seemed to stress him out as a child 😂

I've always loved him, adored him, and thought he was the greatest thing "since sliced bread", but even when I take out all of the mom-biased stuff, I am also incredibly proud and truly impressed at the young man he is today.

One of the biggest questions parents ask before their newborn session is “What should my older child wear?”

My best advice is to keep it simple. Soft neutrals, cozy textures, and comfortable outfits almost always photograph best.

Think cream, beige, soft browns, light gray, dusty blue, sage, simple knits, linen, overalls, or sweet little dresses.

I usually recommend avoiding neon colors, big logos, busy prints, and character graphics because they can pull attention away from the baby.

And honestly? Comfort matters more than perfection.

If a toddler feels itchy, stiff, or uncomfortable, we will all know pretty quickly. 😂

Bare feet usually photograph beautifully in the studio too. It gives everything a softer, more timeless feel.

The sweetest sibling photos are not always the perfectly posed ones. Sometimes it is the tiny hug, the forehead kiss, the giggle, or the curious little look at their brand new baby.

Those are the moments I love most. 🤍

I put together a quick blog with outfit tips for sibling newborn photos if you are planning a session soon.

The sitter stage is one of the best ages for photos.

Baby can usually sit independently, interact, smile, clap, grab their toes, show off those chunky little rolls, and make all the expressions.

But they usually aren’t fast enough to fully escape Karissa yet, which is a nice bonus 😂

If your baby is around 6 to 7 months and sitting safely on their own, it’s a beautiful time for milestone portraits.

These sessions are simple, sweet, and focused on who your baby is right now. The gummy smile. The serious face. The tiny hands. The little personality that seems to get bigger every week.

If you missed newborn photos, milestone portraits are also a wonderful way to document the first year without feeling like you “missed your chance.”

When you're pregnant you eat the right foods, skip the daily can of coke and take the horse pill sized vitamins you never thought you could choke down, all to protect your baby, before they've even arrived. Stressing over measurements and analyzing the face of the tech when you get your first ultrasound.

When they're infant you'll decipher what they're saying through crumpled faces and loud cries...we can't wait till you can tell us what's wrong so we can fix it. Are you eating enough? Hitting all the milestone marks on time?

When they're kids it's kisses on boo-boos, shielding them as best as possible from all things unpleasant and dangerous. How will you do in school? Will the kids be mean to you?

Don't even get me started on the teenage years 💀

We think that when they finally "grow up" we'll be able to breathe a little easier. Worry less.

But I hate to break it to you, you're counting down the days for a sweet relief that will never come.

The worries will change, because as an adult you know the problems they face are much bigger and scarier than any playground bully.

And it's a big pill to swallow (good thing we practiced with those prenatal vitamins 😅) knowing we're no longer able to fix it all with a warm bath and bedtime snuggles.

The need and desire to protect them at all costs, doesn't change, it's just forced to adapt. I can no longer shield them from disappointment, hurt or fear.

But I will ALWAYS be there for them. To talk, to hug, to cry, to support and comfort. Cheering them on from the sidelines, forever their biggest fan.

Even if it mean I'll be sick with worry until the day I die.

One of the biggest worries parents have before a newborn session is:

“What if my babywon't sleep, or cries the whole time?”

First, please know that newborn photographers are very used to babies being babies!

They need to eat. They need to be changed. They need to be held. Sometimes they are wide awake. Sometimes they need extra time to settle. Sometimes they have opinions, and honestly, fair enough 😂

A newborn session should never feel rushed or forced.

At my Oakley studio, newborn sessions are baby-led and focused on safety, comfort, and patience. We follow your baby’s cues and give them what they need along the way.

The sleepy curled-up portraits are beautiful, of course. But the awake eyes, tiny stretches, little faces, and snuggly parent moments matter too.

If you’re searching for a newborn photographer near Oakley, Brentwood, Antioch, Discovery Bay, Walnut Creek, or the East Bay, my hope is that you find someone who treats your baby with the care and patience they deserve.

Maternity photos are not about pretending pregnancy is easy.

Because sometimes it’s usually beautiful, emotional, uncomfortable and exhausting all at once!

These portraits are about slowing down long enough to see yourself in this season before it changes. 🤍

Before baby is in your arms.
Before the newborn days begin.
Before your body, your home, your schedule, and your heart all make room for someone new.

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, pregnancy deserves to be remembered in a way that feels meaningful and honest.

Studio maternity sessions take place in my Oakley portrait studio and are created with guidance so you don’t have to show up knowing what to do.

I photograph expecting moms from Oakley, Brentwood, Antioch, Discovery Bay, Walnut Creek, Danville, Pleasanton, Concord, Livermore, and throughout the East Bay.
