One of the biggest things I want my kids to understand is that they are not powerless when life frustrates them, embarrasses them, or makes them emotional.
They have power.
Not power to control everybody else.
Not power to control every situation.
But power to control how they respond.
The first is the power of the mind…the ability to choose what they hold onto, what they release, and how much control they allow a moment to have over them.
The second is the power of the voice…the ability to speak up, communicate clearly, ask for space, ask questions, express feelings, and advocate for themselves in a healthy way.
The third is the power of the written word…the ability to slow down, process emotions, and put thoughts into writing when talking feels too hard in the moment.
As parents, we should not be teaching our kids to suppress their feelings. We should be teaching them how to express those feelings with strength, clarity, and responsibility.
That is how you build confident kids.
That is how you build emotionally healthy kids.
And that is how you help them change outcomes instead of just reacting to them.
